gifts at work
this is a little specific, but if you can help id appreciate it.
my last day at work is this friday. ive had it pretty rough there, mostly my commute which is about 6 hours a day. ive had a few people who have given me rides to/from the office when they can, and its been super helpful.
so i wanna get them a little something to say thanks. what can i get that's simple and impressive? and maybe on the cheap? ive got 6 women to get for.
and please dont suggest candles and/or bath and body works lotions. they have that crap all over their desks.

A really nice thing is a small plant for their desk. There are some really little ones that they could water and hopefully they sit next to a window. If not, litle cactuses are cute and different.

I got two of those as "in case of emergency" gifts, so that if someone in my office decides to get me something, I don't feel like a shlub because I didn't get him/her anything.

A gas card is always appreciated or a gift certificate to a lunch spot that you have enjoyed with co-workers. Or go for something edible: You can fill up a gift bag with some specialty teas and some scones for each of them.

Godiva is a good call.
I like adpiucf's idea too. I have done gift certificates in the past to a favorite restaurant for co-workers who like to go there together for lunch periodically.
If you think they might like them, Lamy pens are also a good call. I have given those as gifts quite often. They are inexpensive, very high quality, and have a more modern and fun look to them than the more standard gift pens like Cross. Sensa pens also come in some really neat colors and are very comfortable to use.
Cake is always good too- to go with other small presents. Nothing works quite like surprising everyone with a cake and having a small impromptu celebration.

I thought Sensa pens were like $70-80 a pop.

I like both the Godiva & the gas card, but if you're making a lot of Christmas Cookies, a few dozen would do well, too.

Yikes- are they all that much now? I got someone a "special edition" one once that I think was around $50, but I thought the basic ones were $20ish.
Been a while since I got one though. Popular as they are, they may well have gotten that expensive across the board.

My friend got one for her Bat Mitzvah in 1998, and I think she said they cost around that much.

A hand written letter of heart-felt thanks would be appreciated. You could tuck a gift card inside. Or, depending on what you want to spend:
A small gift packet from Starbucks
A 2007 appointment journal
Some home-baked cookies
A picture frame
A tin of Mrs. Fields cookies or brownies
Car wash gift certificates
Movie passes for two
A CD download of songs the person likes

I think the gift card idea is the best idea. You can never go wrong with it and it allows you to control your budget and make sure everyone gets the same amount
