Although the article says he retired from acting, he did not. He continued to work with director Tim Burton on projects and did a lot of voiceover work.

My family loves that scene from Beetlejuice--whenever the kids (even those who are adults now) hear the Banana Boat Song, they run over to chairs and perform.
