Harvard allowing NPC groups to colonize
Wow! I woke up this morning, read my KD weekly email newsletter, and found out that HARVARD has recently agreed to allow NPC groups to colonize on campus! There was a note in our email from our National VP of Membership about this, so I know it is legit!
What do you all think? Doesn't Harvard have a few "underground" NPC groups operating on campus?
All the NPC groups have got to be drooling over this. Talk about great potential future income (= future donaties to XYZ sorority) and great prestige

I heard about this at our Province Meeting. I know Yale has GLOs because KKG has a chapter there. Whoever gets a chapter at Harvard shouldn't have any trouble with scholarship!

This is true. They started looking at different GLOs last fall. I am not sure when they will make a decision.

Does anyone know whether or not they're considering fraternities also?

Theta and DG already have chapters at Harvard -- which until recently were not recognized or what have you by the university. It will be interesting to see how this expansion proposal affects the groups that are already there.

It was my understanding that Harvard's unrecognized Panhellenic Council has decided to expand and invite a third group to colonize on campus...not that the university has changed its policy about Greek groups. The two existing chapters are turning away many interested women at each rush. Several all-female local groups are also growing (the Bee, the Seneca, the Sabliere Society, the Isis, etc.). Harvard construes its anti-discrimination policies very strictly and requires all clubs to be open to all undergraduates, the only exceptions being athletic teams and singing groups devoted to high-voice or low-voice music. The Black Students Association must admit whites, the Christian Fellowship must welcome atheists, etc.
If Harvard has decided to recognize single-sex groups, that's a revolutionary change. Could you post a link if that's the case?
FYI, Yale has Pi Phi and Theta in addition to Kappa. It recognizes these groups, although only Theta has a house. Princeton, which has Pi Phi, Theta, Kappa, and Tri-Delt, does not recognize any Greek groups, although they are much more popular there than at Harvard or Yale.

No kidding! Our chapter at Yale has a 3.64 average, according to the new Arrow!

So far as I know, Harvard will NOT be inviting any new men's fraternities to colonize.
It is my understanding that presentations will be made by all interested (and invited) NPC groups in the first week of March...just two weeks from now.
When/if I get more info (as I live in Boston and am fairly well-connected with the Greek community here), I will be sure to let you all know.

Hehe, we were kinda mad about that because they beat us! Because W&L has a winter AND a spring term (spring term is shorter) and they took the winter term GPA!
But it is VERY exciting about Harvard! It will be interesting to see who is chosen to present.

Being that the first week of March is only 2 weeks away, do you think that they've already choosen who to invite? I don't know how much notice they usually give. If they've already decide who to invite, then i'm definately excited b/c it seems that KD would be one of them if our National VP of Membership sent out an email looking for alumnae help!

Sweet!
AEPhi used to have a chapter at Yale... chartered in 1995, right before my chapter. Not sure when it closed.

Student Paper Article on NPC Expansion
Harvard's student paper, The Crimson, covered this story in the February 3, 2003 issue in an article by Jeslyn A. Miller. According to that article the three groups that will be presenting are Alpha Phi, Delta Delta Delta and Kappa Kappa Gamma. The story is available through the archives on The Crimson's web site, and this link should take you to it

Decision made at Harvard
I've had to be tight-lipped about this process, but I am PROUD to report that Kappa Kappa Gamma will be colonizing its newest chapter at HARVARD in the Fall of 2003.
This means Harvard will now have chapters of Kappa Alpha Theta, Delta Gamma, and Kappa Kappa Gamma!
I'm so excited!!!!
