Fraternity Snubs Jackson Because Of Flag
Confederate Emblem Deterrent For Visiting Groups
JACKSON, 8:46 a.m. CDT May 31, 2001 -- A black fraternity Wednesday
joined
the ranks of groups that will not come to Jackson because of the state
flag
issue.
The flag, which bears the Confederate emblem, was cited as the reason
for
Alpha Phi Alpha canceling its conference next year at the Crowne Plaza
Hotel.

The loss of the convention will cost the city around $500,000 in
revenue.

Last month, a group of black firefighters canceled its convention in
Jackson
as well.
