Alpha Phi Alpha Takes a Stand
I applaud your stance on this critical issue.
http://www.thejacksonchannel.com/home/797493/index.html Fraternity Snubs Jackson Because Of Flag Confederate Emblem Deterrent For Visiting Groups JACKSON, 8:46 a.m. CDT May 31, 2001 -- A black fraternity Wednesday joined the ranks of groups that will not come to Jackson because of the state flag issue. The flag, which bears the Confederate emblem, was cited as the reason for Alpha Phi Alpha canceling its conference next year at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. The loss of the convention will cost the city around $500,000 in revenue. Last month, a group of black firefighters canceled its convention in Jackson as well. ------------------ http://www.plauder-smilies.de/elefant.gif #4 Spring 1997 Omicron Theta Wittenberg University ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Rain does not fall on one roof alone. I commend Alpha Phi Alpha for standing up for what is right! (for all that it's worth from a lowly ole Sophomore!)

how is it that alpha phi alpha can take such a public and proactive stand against that issue...but not take a stand against the perversion of the pledge process...the miseducation of its brothers and sisters...and take the lead in getting back on track WITHIN...as you are outside of the organization... http://www.plauder-smilies.de/rough/zzwhip.gif

HeeHee! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif funny ape...not...anyhow...ain't a damn thing wrong with pledging my nubian brothah...but there is everything wrong with dehumanizing...humiliating...and oppressing the soul of another human being in the name of "upholding" a pledge process...which has admittedly...according to several bglo members...gone awry...if i were a boy though...alpha phi alpha would be my number one choice... http://www.plauder-smilies.de/rough/zzwhip.gif ain't a damn thing free about hypocrisy...

I freely admit that some people should not be tryin' to pledge other people because they themselves don't know, understand or live by the precepts of the fraternity. But because they were initiated, they are granted the right to. I've always believed that Neos should not participate in pledging, unless they are offering ideas that could enhance the process; on the other hand, I don't mean to insinuate that all neos are immature. My point is that I understand your point; but real brotherhood is a prize that has to be earned-just like trust. |
