Can I go through recruitment again?

So I accepted a bid from a sorority at the beginning of this previous semester but now I realize now that this sorority is not for me. I am not initiated however, I did sign my name and date into a book at the beginning of my pledging process. I know I would have to wait a full year before going through recruitment again but does this mean I can't join another sorority or become a founding sister to a new sorority??

I guess we need to clarify a few things. When you say you accepted the bid at the beginning of this past semester, you mean fall 2015, yes?

What kind of sorority is this? Local, NPHC, NPC, multicultural....?

When you say "...become a founding sister to another sorority", what do you mean?

If you're talking about an NPC sorority, did not initiate and resigned your membership, then yes, you could participate in recruitment again next year. However, whether or not you would be successful depends on the campus culture and if you left your previous sorority on good terms. Whether or not you can be a founding sister for a new sorority depends on what kind of sorority you mean (local, NPC, multicultural, etc).

Yes I do mean fall 2015 and this is a NPC sorority. The new sorority that is coming onto my campus is also an NPC sorority as are the others that I would supposedly be rushing. My main concern was that my signing of a book will not be a problem since I'm not initiated will it?

That's generally ritual-related and will not affect you as long as you have not been fully initiated. You are free to go through recruitment again next Fall 2016 for either the established sororities on campus or a new colonizing sorority.

You would need to be sure to sign any needed paperwork and follow their procedures to sever your pledgeship with the original sorority.

And please note, not every NPC group uses the term "founding member" so it's best not to use that term unless you are sure. As far as my group is concerned, we only had 3 founders in 1873 and they are dead and buried in MS. We use the term "charter member" for the members of the first group initiated in a new chapter.

Was this through formal rush? Because if it was just a COB bid, it doesn't count. :eyeroll:
