At Rose-Hulman, rush is for first quarter freshmen, and it lasts almost the entire first quarter. It's dry, and you can't talk about other fraternities at all, except to say that they exist, and that the freshmen should check them all out. Both rules have advantages and disadvantages, but I think the advantages outweigh here. For non-freshmen and freshman that didn't join on bid day, there are NO rush rules. They can be bid any time after a 2 week no contact period directly following rush their freshman year. There is no bid matching. One guy could get 8 bids, and he has to choose which one he wants on the spot. Of course he has 8 weeks to decide, and very seldom does a guy get more than 2 or 3. Usually by the end of our 7-8 week rush, the freshmen have narrowed it down to 1 or 2. Last year, we bid 34 guys. One didn't recieve his bid card for some bizarre reason, and we took 17. Of the other 16, I'd say 9 joined other houses, and 7 didn't join any. We're working on them now
