Colony recruitment is like what the women described in their threads below. However, some events have already begun. We participated in Super Bulldog weekend and two weeks later held a reception for upper-class women. Both were smashing successes!
In the fall, AOII will participate in the Open House round and then drop out. It will be sort of like an introduction to AOII. After formal recruitment is over, AOII will host a series of events for about two weeks. Fun information sessions will take place in the evening. We had a progressive Passport Party when we recolonized Oklahoma last fall. Each night was a different country. During the day, the recruitment team will conduct one-on-one personal appointments. This is a very relaxed interview so that you can ask any questions you want. Once these are concluded, select women will be invited to Preference and bids will be distributed.
The recruitment team is looking for a very diverse but cohesive group of women. Everyone from freshmen through graduate students can participate. A colony can bid up to either chapter total or average chapter size. At Indiana, we bid up to average chapter size, which was larger then total. At Oklahoma, we chose not to bid up to average or total.
Once the core group is selected then the fun and hard work begins! Below is from the “About Us” section of the above web site.
“AOII's Colony Program
Fun and Friendship grow into Sisterhood during the ten week colony period.
To be selected as a colony member for a new collegiate chapter of Alpha Omicron Pi is an exciting adventure. Not only do these colony members have the privilege of choosing the Greek name and the sub-motto for their chapter, they also have the opportunity of establishing the traditions and developing the by-laws that will be distinguishing characteristics for their chapter. As they work together with local AOII alumnae to build a strong foundation for this new chapter, colony members will forge a bond of friendship that will last throughout their lives.
The ten-week colony period begins with a colonization ceremony, and family, friends, and members of the campus community are invited to attend. The colony members are guided though out their colonization period by an AOII Chapter Consultant who lives on campus during this time. In addition to the Chapter Consultant, local alumnae are trained to serve as the Alumnae Advisory Committee for the chapter. Local alumnae also serve on the Corporation Board for the Chapter. A Colony Network Specialist who is an experienced AOII volunteer, will be assigned to work directly with the new chapter.
A week-end membership retreat will be held off campus shortly after the colonization ceremony so that colony members will have the opportunity of getting to know each other in an informal setting. This is the first sisterhood event scheduled for the new chapter, and the activities are planned by the Chapter Consultant, with the assistance of the local alumnae.
During the first few weeks of the colonization period, the members will choose the committees on which they wish to serve.
These committees include:
Academic,
Administrative,
Panhellenic/Campus Events,
Bylaws & Standards,
Sisterhood/Song/Spirit,
Education/Risk Management,
Recruitment,Alumnae/Parent Relations,
Public Relations,
Financial,
House,
Philanthropy,
and Social.
Many opportunities for leadership and personal development are offered.
Sisterhood and fun are key elements of the colony program as the colony members work together to plan philanthropic and social events.”
There are at least two AOII colony women who post on GC. They are texasaopi and AOII_LUV.
