Cheers to AOII! Now if we can get my chapter restructured this fall, I will truly be one happy AOII. Your support is helpful. Thanks sisters.:)

Hi 'LB!
What's going on out there with your chapter (if you can share publically of course.) Sending lots of Alpha Love and positive thoughts your way! GOOD LUCK! Roses, Christin |
Colony recruitment is like what the women described in their threads below. However, some events have already begun. We participated in Super Bulldog weekend and two weeks later held a reception for upper-class women. Both were smashing successes!
In the fall, AOII will participate in the Open House round and then drop out. It will be sort of like an introduction to AOII. After formal recruitment is over, AOII will host a series of events for about two weeks. Fun information sessions will take place in the evening. We had a progressive Passport Party when we recolonized Oklahoma last fall. Each night was a different country. During the day, the recruitment team will conduct one-on-one personal appointments. This is a very relaxed interview so that you can ask any questions you want. Once these are concluded, select women will be invited to Preference and bids will be distributed. The recruitment team is looking for a very diverse but cohesive group of women. Everyone from freshmen through graduate students can participate. A colony can bid up to either chapter total or average chapter size. At Indiana, we bid up to average chapter size, which was larger then total. At Oklahoma, we chose not to bid up to average or total. Once the core group is selected then the fun and hard work begins! Below is from the “About Us” section of the above web site. “AOII's Colony Program Fun and Friendship grow into Sisterhood during the ten week colony period. To be selected as a colony member for a new collegiate chapter of Alpha Omicron Pi is an exciting adventure. Not only do these colony members have the privilege of choosing the Greek name and the sub-motto for their chapter, they also have the opportunity of establishing the traditions and developing the by-laws that will be distinguishing characteristics for their chapter. As they work together with local AOII alumnae to build a strong foundation for this new chapter, colony members will forge a bond of friendship that will last throughout their lives. The ten-week colony period begins with a colonization ceremony, and family, friends, and members of the campus community are invited to attend. The colony members are guided though out their colonization period by an AOII Chapter Consultant who lives on campus during this time. In addition to the Chapter Consultant, local alumnae are trained to serve as the Alumnae Advisory Committee for the chapter. Local alumnae also serve on the Corporation Board for the Chapter. A Colony Network Specialist who is an experienced AOII volunteer, will be assigned to work directly with the new chapter. A week-end membership retreat will be held off campus shortly after the colonization ceremony so that colony members will have the opportunity of getting to know each other in an informal setting. This is the first sisterhood event scheduled for the new chapter, and the activities are planned by the Chapter Consultant, with the assistance of the local alumnae. During the first few weeks of the colonization period, the members will choose the committees on which they wish to serve. These committees include: Academic, Administrative, Panhellenic/Campus Events, Bylaws & Standards, Sisterhood/Song/Spirit, Education/Risk Management, Recruitment,Alumnae/Parent Relations, Public Relations, Financial, House, Philanthropy, and Social. Many opportunities for leadership and personal development are offered. Sisterhood and fun are key elements of the colony program as the colony members work together to plan philanthropic and social events.” There are at least two AOII colony women who post on GC. They are texasaopi and AOII_LUV. Here are some threads from the PNM perspective. thanks aopirose! i understand a lot better now. yeah i wanted to go to super bulldog weekend but i couldnt make it. i think i was in oxford that day. i'm not completely sold out on ole miss yet. but i do have it narrowed down some...i love the ole miss campus and their greek system but i've always been a state fan so...ya know. so what about that house? thats really cool. i had no idea AGD was ever there. what happened to them? and when will AOPi get the house? thats awesome because thats a nice house. i'm exited for them. i cant wait to rush hehe. um do yall know if state or ole miss sororities have things to involve high school seniors or anything along those lines. i think i read somewhere that some schools have those programs for high school seniors. like those "get to know us" things. like an education session type thing.

That site is awesome ... the other 25 NPCs should be taking a long hard look at it!
|
Thanks FuzzieAlum. I think that the site is catchy too.
4RunnerStar, I don't know all the ins and outs of why AGD closed. I only know that it happened in the spring of 2002. As for AOII's use of the house, we are trying to work out a deal with AGD. Truthfully, the deal may be settled for all I really know. I am not that high up on the totem pole. ;) As for special HS senior events, it would be best to contact the Greek Life office at the school that you plan to attend. Each school does things so differently and I would hate to give misinformation. |
New Colony at MSU in Starkville, MS
Yes I went down to Starkville, about a two hour drive from Oxford, MS, this past March 2003 with 25 Nu Beta actives to help with the informational meeting about AOII. AOII received a standing ovation and everyone at MSU loved our presentation. The ladies of the Alambama AOII chapter were also there to help. I am so excited about another AOII chapter in MS. I know Nu Beta will be going down to State this year to help with rush!
|
Wow, a standing ovation? How awesome is that?
I'd love to see a presentation someday. I've heard the story about when AOII presented to my own chapter and it still gives me chills. What an honor to participate! Roses, Christin |
I too would LOVE to see a presentation - especially if it is here at a school in Wisconsin. ;)
I'm so happy to have a new chapter of AOII - even if it is down in Mississippi (because it's on the other side of the country!) Roses! Sarah |
