Question should I rush again?

Hi, I'm an upcoming junior at a BIG SEC school. I went didn't rush as a freshman, but I rushed as a sophmore. I loved two houses, ABC and XYZ. ABC is one of the "top" ones on my campus, and I'm a legacy (mom and grandma) in that house. The other, XYZ my best friend from high school was in. I was dropped and subsequently devastated by my legacy house after 3rd round and thus I dropped from all of rush, though now I know I should have gone to prefs and I would have ended up in XYZ. So this past spring, I didn't get a bid to XYZ during COB, (which bothered some of my friends as well as myself). I know that XYZ has taken juniors before (plus I'm on the 5 year plan) and ABC is more selective in that respect. But I still really like ABC more than XYZ, and since last rush I have gained a big position in student gov't on campus so I get to see lots of involvement from that point. So my questions for GC are: Should I rush again at all in the fall? And if I do, should I have Rec's sent in this time to ABC? I didn't do that before and my godmother is on national exec, plus ones from my grandma and mom. Just want to know what ya'll think.
Thanks,
aiya

I'd go for it! Send recs in to both ABC and XYZ - if your godmother is on national exec, have her write the rec. State on your rush registration form that you're a junior on a 5-year program, and find a way to work that into conversations during first round parties so the sisters know you have 3 years to give to your org as a collegian, not just 2.

Good luck!

Hello fellow almost junior! I am going through kind of the same dilema right now as you in regard to deciding whether or not to go through rush again after the same sort of legacy situation. Unfortunately I don't know what to tell, if I did I would tell myself..haha.. If I were you, I think I would go for it, what can it hurt? Since you are on the 5 year plan I would think it wouldn't be as big of a deal since you would still have 3 more years to dedidcate to that house.

Good Luck on your decision!

Rush again! I agree with the advice here. Get your recs in on time especially from your godmother. I think that you should spent time this semester getting to know the sisters of all the sororities that you are interested in. Also use this semester to cultivate the qualities in yourself that you think will enhance a sorority and improve your chances of getting the bid that you want. Good luck!

I would definitely rush again. I would have all 3 send a rec to ABC. My chapter has released a girl one year and pledged her the next.
I wouldn't stop there though. I would seek recs for all of the chapters on campus. If you have a great position on campus your rush should go fairly well, as long as there aren't any other issues.

Hey that's funny that you saw my posts on the AGD forum! It has been really informative to hear their outlook on it all since that is one of the organizations I am a legacy to and they are a really strong house where I go. If I decide to go through rush again I am kind of dreading having to go ask everyone for recommendations again and go through the whole process, as I am sure you are too, but I really think you should go for it!

It will be fun to see what you decide to do as we get closer!

Last time I checked, Once you join a GLO, you were in for life....?
Not just the remainder of your undergrad career. Who cares if you are a Junior.

If they are a quality group, they'll have something to offer Juniors just as you'll have something to offer them. If that isn't the case, you don't need them anyway.

Hey these are comments of a guy fraternity member & I don't profess to understand the whole Pan Hell thing, but I do know that my fraternity is for LIFE and I'll bet ABC and XYZ are for life too.

I would say go through rush again, as long as you realize there are no promises. Really think about if you can handle going through the process again and not coming out with a bid. Also realize that many groups will drop you immediately because of your class standing.

With that said, I believe youshould try. If you don't you will probably always wonder "what would have been..."

Good luck!

I would say go through rush again, but be prepared that a lot of the sororities at the only major SEC school in FL tend to cut all juniors and above first round regardless of whether they liked you or not. This is the explanation I got when they called to tell me they cut my sister

unfortunately

Unfortunately you're right. The big SEC schools, including the one in FL, cut you simply because of junior status. HOWEVER! I know this year several of the chapters that are notorious for cutting anything over freshmen status pledged juniors. SO, I'd say go for it, but realize your recruitment experience could go either way, totally fabulous or not so great. But either way you'll always wonder what could've been if you don't go for it if being greek means that much to you. Best of luck and keep us posted!

Just out of curiosity what are the two sororities that you like. The one that you're a leg of and the one that you have a friend in. Just wondering is all....

I was in a similar situation (hence the nick, I was a junior when I joined GC) at another SEC school (LSU). I wasn't a legacy, but I had a good friend fighting for me in her house.

I'll spare the details, b/c most here know the story, but, needless to say, I didn't get a bid. But, I'm glad I gave it a try. And now I know that THEY are the ones missing out, not me

PM me if you want to know more.

Definitely go for it, especially since you're a double legacy. I know my house keeps an eye out for all legacies, regardless of age. Anyway, go for it as long as you keep an open mind that anything can happen. What do you have to lose?

GL!
