Actions against chapters for students who've become alumni...

A videotape is made public showing obvious hazing by brothers of pledges. Should National pull the charter of the chapter if
A) Most of the brothers have graduated.
B) All of the brothers have graduated, but some/all of the pledges are still there
C) All of the brothers and all of the pledges have graduated.

(Assume no doubt as to whether it *that* chapter or the date it occured)

If Yes for C, how long of a gap would there have to be? (I think Personal Movie cameras date back to at least the 1960s)

There are options other than pulling a charter.

In the investigation the GLO and school can decide if the chapter needs to be monitored and go through a program. Many GLOs have programs designed to inform and strengthen chapters. If monitoring and a program do not suffice, the GLO and school can determine whether suspension or probation of members are in order; or suspension of the chapter is in order.

Only after these have been considered should there be a possible revoking of charter.

The alumnae and alumni will be punished based on the GLO procedures.

I don't know about pulling the charter, but I'd definitely remove them from alumni membership.

1. The members who participated are gone.

2. The chapter has to review anti-hazing training and is tightly monitored for some time.

Video tape? Like Betamax?

If you're talking about actions which may have occurred in ancient history, I'd leave it alone. Unless you're talking about shocking stuff like a video of a gang rape, if it's just hazing, even shocking by today's standards, it's likely that if these particular alums are guilty, you'd need to dissociate a huge majority of your alumni.

The anti-hazing push is really a more recent (in the last 20 years) movement. It's not fair to judge alumni for violating rules they could have never imagined would exist in the future.

If those alumni are volunteers, make sure they're aware that these aren't the good 'ol days and call it good.
