How does informal recruitment work??
Hi everyone,
I'm currently going through spring recruitment at my school. Spring rush here is also called informal rush so it's different from the formal one. I try to search online about informal recruitment but most information is about formal recruitment. Anyway, my question is how do you know if you get cut or not?? I mean I don't want to still go to the event which the sorority already cut me. I found out the spring recruitment on sororities' Facebook and they only posted a pic( like an invitation) on their FB and of course it is open everyone. And today they post their second event in FB, should I assume no one get cut and still go to the event?? They took my email and number but so far I didn't receive anything said invite me to next event nor I get cut.. Ahh I'm just nervous!
By the way the Greek office at my school didn't help at all.. They basically let us contact sororities ourselves.. They are only "responsible" to formal recruitment..

A lot of times informal recruitment parties are open to the public so that they can give women an opportunity to get to know the chapter in a laid back atmosphere. The types of informal recruitments that involve "cuts" would not have invitations posted on FB. I think you are fine to attend the party. They will likely give out bids when they are done with their parties. Sometimes groups will have an invitation-only preference party, but you wouldn't see an invitation on FB for this. You'd be invited personally. Many times, though, no party like this is done and groups skip straight to issuing bids. Good luck.

Thanks a lot!! I'm so worrying right now.. I remembered they said last time their second event is going to be a dinner event at the 2nd, but the post they put on FB is an event to a zoo at the 7th.. I wonder if there is a mistake or they just exclude some girls for their dinner thing..
Thanks again AOII Angel I get my fingers crossed!!

Depending on the weather where you are, you could wear jeans or a skirt with a nice top, cardigan, and flats or boots (ones that are comfortable to walk in!)

Generally in sorority informal rush there aren't cuts per se. They may have private events to which you are not invited but if they have a publicly advertised event then you are welcome to attend. You should dress to go to the zoo more or less how you would attend the zoo on any other day. Of course you'd want to make sure you look just right in your casual attire, but this is not a "show up at the zoo in a cocktail dress" event. Whereas you might wear jeans and a sweatshirt to the zoo, maybe this time you'd wear slacks and a sweater, but likely even jeans and a sweater (or jacket, whatever the weather dictates) with a cute pair of comfortable shoes and complementary accessories should work. Casual =/= grungy or sloppy.

just a little bit update i dont really wanna start another thread since i dont know whats the final result yet. soo due to the conflict schedule( both from different sorority events and class schedule), i ended up only be able to go to all the events from ONE house( lets call it ABC)... i have to "cut" all the others because the conflicts i mentioned.. and from the first ABC event,i found out that most PNM are friends with the girls in ABC, and unfortunately im not friends with anyone.... and i heard there is only like 4 or 5 empty spots, and 20 some girls were rushing....i feel really hopeless... should i just give up and try it again in the fall?? or is fall recruitment in general easier than spring??

Fall isn't "easier" but you do get to avoid the kerfuffle of sororities scheduling events at the same time. If you feel like you've been basically forced to put all your eggs in this basket, I would just wait and try again in the fall, even if it means you'll be in an older class.

Yeah, it sounds like you picked the wrong group to focus on. Informal can be that way. It's a shame that Panhell doesn't make them stagger their parties so they don't overlap, at least for the initial sets. Good luck with formal recruitment.

Ok!! Rush is done today!! So the last event ended around 230 today. Then I left school(the house). At the end they said they will contact us next Monday or so. However I got a phone call around 330 from the recruitment chair. Unfortunately I DIDN'T hear it while I was working and when I checked my phone it's already an hour after. I texted her back but she never replied me. Then on facebook I found out two pnms got all these "congrats" post on their wall so I assume they got bid. And they went out eat tonight for small celebration.
So. Should I assume thats it?? I'm really upset right now that I missed the call but if they want to give me bid they should call back right?? I don't think they were just calling to say "thanks for your parcitipation".. And the fact they only took 2 girls.. Do you think it's possible that sorority gives bid out in different days?? I mean they haven't "officially" give out bids but obviously some girls were accepted already.
I know that I will probably know what's going on Tomr or next week but I'm so frustrated now..

You should relax. If they called to give you a bid, and you responded within a few hours, they should call back today or tomorrow.
