Greeks at SFSU
So, this morning, I stopped by SFSU to visit someone and as I was leaving the campus, I stopped by the student center and saw members from:
Sigma Pi Alpha (Sorority)
Pi Kappa Phi
Phi Kappa Tau
Zeta Chi Epsilon (local frat)
Alpha Epsilon Pi
Sigma Omicron Pi (Sorority)
Alpha Phi
Alpha Gamma Delta
Phi Sigma Sigma
and a new local Jewish sorority Lambda Chi Mu

All within the 30 minutes I was sitting in from of the union. For an anti-greek campus, I'd say visibility is pretty good.
NPC is going through recruitment this week and it's pretty much RUSH month for all the orgs. Good Luck to all the greek orgs @ SFState!
fyi- here is a list of recognized greek orgs:

Hi NinjaPoodle!
I'm an SFSU alum and I just got word that Alpha Phi just completed rush with 55 new members! Such an extreme change from when I rushed back in 1997. Our pledge class was 4 and total membership was around 30. Now, they're 124 members strong!
I also read that Alpha Gamma Delta got 54 new members.
Looks like the Greek system is flourishing!

I'm curious though if the houses have that many numbers, shouldn't a 4th house be brought on the campus to balance it out?

If the members are comfortable with the pledge class sizes and they have sufficient room to meet in, they don't have to expand.
National HQs, for the most part, prefer 4 groups of 100 on a campus rather than 10 groups of 40. When campuses with smaller chapters decide to expand, it's usually driven by the sorority members in spite of what their HQ would prefer.

That makes sense.

When I was the Recruitment Adviser a few years ago, I know there was talk of bringing a 4th NPC group in, but the 3rd existing sorority was struggling a bit numbers-wise, so I don't think they went any further. This is all speculation, but it makes sense.
This year, quota was 54 and they got 29 new members through formal recruitment.

No, but I got a report from the current adviser. I did see the pictures you posted on the Bid Day pics thread and loved seeing them all. I still can't believe how much bigger the houses are. Thanks for posting them!

I remember that third existing sorority when I was there. It seems to have always struggled, and other other two relatively stronger. I'm guessing a regionally strong fourth NPC might decimate the third house, so I see why one might not be really wanted. Great to see stronger Greek life at SFSU. When I was there, the locals appeared to be bigger than the National orgs. Now it seems to have a strong National presence too, which is great.
ETA: My SFSU undergraduate chapter held its reunion last month, and some of the activities took place on campus. It was great to have Sorors attending who hadn't been on SFSU's campus in 28 years.

I saw your sorors at the Meet the Black Greeks last week @ Jack Adams. They were looking good!

Soror, is the bolded a typo? LOL. If not, that's different. I've never heard of a "Meet the Black Greeks," but I've been to numerous NPHC "Meet the Greeks" events.

Nope. No typo. That's what they called it.

oh, wow. I personally don't like being called a "Black Greek" or promoting "Black Greeks." I know what people mean by it, I just don't like it.

I'm not too fond of that either but hey, it brought out the masses that night.
