My recruitment story in a few words

I went through rush this past weekend and it was a mind blowing experience filled with a lot of waiting and tears. Going in, I had biased opinions of certain sororities because I did rush last year, but my grandmother fell sick and I couldn't bear to go on and be fair with everyone. I rushed again and it was definitely different. Going in, there's only six sororities. I won't name them but I'll label them 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.

In the end more or less, I thought I wanted #1. Because I got a bid to them last year. But seeing them, they grew away from their views that I saw them as last year. I ended up picking #2 and #5. #5 came out of no where because I always ranked it last but in the end, it was always coming back.

Then during Pref Night, I realized I didn't know how to choose. I didn't know how much I could love #5 but #2 was always dear to me because it was choice 2 for me last year. I was definitely worried about the money. I only work part time, in which my checks do come post-dated. And #2 was definitely price-y, asking for $110 next week and $385 in the following weeks. But #5 was so inexpensive.

However, I felt it was such a petty reason to choose over, but it was the reality. When I went to pref night for #5, I was crying so hard. Their stories were so heart-felt and it felt like a sisterhood. I didn't know how to choose after seeing their ceremony. Going for a break and having a long gap in between, it was time for #2. Their ceremony was a bit light-hearted, no saddening stories to cry over. But I did burst into tears when they sang because in the midst of that, some of the seniors realized it'd be their last recruitment. I tend to cry when others do. The girl that preffed me was the girl I met in my recruitment group last year. We became great friends in the semester after and she kept me updated on everything that she was doing in #2. She made sure to contact me ensuring I went to the booths and registered for recruitment in time. Each day of recruitment, she came over to say hello to me in the room even when another girl was talking to me. Preference Night, we lined up in ABC order, I was last because of my last name, like always. She was there to greet me at the door. She asked if she knew if I knew that she'd be the one who preffed me. I kinda figured she would (: She wrote me a note on a piece of cardstock (as did the other sisters with their PNMs) and she wrote that she was so glad I had the courage to re-rush again. She also said I had qualities of her that she saw in me throughout this recruitment process.

After seeing #2, all my money questions flew out the window. It didn't matter anymore because I was going to find ways to figure that out later. I knew I wanted to be in #2. I saw these girls and I saw life long friendships in them. And as cheesy as it sounded hearing it from my Rho Gammas, it was definitely true when they say "you'll just know!"

Now...I'm patiently waiting for Bid Day 2011 to start in 2 more hours. I'll update to see which one I get!

After literally sitting on my bid for 45 minutes, pass around phones to input facebooks and phone numbers, take pictures with the 'sorority' pose...I was able to open my bid and I didn't read any of the words that surrounded the sorority's name. The only thing that stood out was the black, red, and white detailing on the card. In white print it read: ALPHA GAMMA DELTA (: That was #2 in my story! I couldn't believe I got a bid to it. It literally is going to be a life changing thing!

Of course, couldn't forget that dress. I asked my Rho Gam and she said that pref day here is really toned down. So I ended up wearing a fancy-ish casual dress with black heels and a green cardigan. It looked liked I was heading to a tea party, but I got a lot of compliments on my hair (because I curled it and put it into a low bun) But there were a lot of girls who wore sun dresses like something you could wear to school, some wore dresses you'd wear to a club...it was a good mix of everything. But at the end it really is down to meeting the sorority and experiencing their ceremony than what you're wearing.

Yeah, I realized that! The due dates for the money isn't soo bad. I know that my new member due of $110 has to be paid by this weekend. And I think the next amount of like $300+ is due in late November. So it's pretty spaced out, and I'll work out a payment plan with the girl who manages finance.
