Eastern Illinois Recruitment

Google Alerts sent me this article today:
http://media.www.dennews.com/media/s...-4000425.shtml

I'm not sure I get it. They're talking about informal recruitment (I assume) and state that women have received multiple bids and have to choose one and sign it, but then they say this:

"Not everyone is guaranteed a spot within the Greek organization despite receiving a bid, and this is something Diehl said she realized."

Are they confused about bids vs. invitations? Are they just plain wrong? Or is there some sort of system at EIU where signing bids is 'first come first serve', and if a woman takes too long to make up her mind, her bid will become invalid because another woman with a bid has taken her spot already?

Anyone familiar with the campus and know the answer?

We have a chapter there (have for around 45 years) and I've always thought this campus was fairly traditional, i.e. rush is run there like it is most places. I think this silly boy just has the terminology wrong.

Unless they've made a drastic change this year (which I haven't received notification about), I agree with 33girl. I think our chapter there would have told me if something changed that much.

This looks like they are referring to Preference invitations.

Coming out of long time LurkerVille to help a sister out and because it's so rare to see anything about my alma mater on GC

33 is correct - EIU runs a traditional, formal rush in the fall which just finished Monday. I believe it goes 9-7-5-2, so it should read that the ladies preferenced at ABC/XYZ, not that they received bids to each and were choosing between the two. The DEN is not exactly the cream of the crop in terms of campus newspapers, so it's not so surprising that they would mix it up.

I know there's a woman on here who's a current Tri-Delta at EIU that hopefully will chime in with more info for you...I'm many, many years removed from the process but still a fairly active alumna, so I'm pretty confident that if things had changed that dramatically, I would have heard about it.

And for Irishpipes' thread...Sigma Kappa at EIU has 33 new baby doves

Hey, that's me! Recruitment did just finish here at EIU, and we do have a pretty traditional system. We had four rounds, starting with Open Houses on Thursday, Open Round on Friday, Philanthropy on Saturday, Preference on Sunday and Bid Day on Monday.

The article is wrong, I believe that these women were interviewed before they received their bids, so they talked about the two houses that they attended for Preference round. skswa is definitely right about our newspaper not being terribly reputable, but at least they're trying to write a somewhat positive article on Greek Life, as they have been known to be incredibly hostile toward us. The comments? Even more misinformed and hostile.

I hope that helps you guys out, and if you have any more questions, feel free to ask!
