Question about transfer recruitment

Hey I'm new here, but I think this is the right section.

I'm going to be transferring to FIU next year as a sophomore. I heard from someone you can't rush until spring because you need a certain GPA to rush, and transfers don't have one yet. Is this true? I always assumed they looked at your last GPA from your previous college, I was planning on rushing for fall to see all the sororities offered.
