Small School Superhero Recruitment

Hey guys! I'm a longtime lurker who's been scouring GreekChat for the last few months to help prepare myself for recruitment I go to a small school in the Northeast that has a somewhat noncompetitive system. We have 11 sororities on campus. I was a comic book geek as a child, so I'm going to name them after superheroes:
Captain America
Daredevil
Doctor Strange
Hulk
Iron Man
Mr. Fantastic
Ms. Marvel
Silver Surfer
Spider-man
Thor
Wolverine

I'm a sophomore, which isn't uncommon at my school. In fact, this year 50% of PNMs are sophomores. We also have the highest number of PNMs ever this year. There are almost 400 of us!

Open House starts tomorrow and I'm really excited and nervous!

Open House starts tomorrow and I'm really excited and nervous!

As a sophomore, I am going into recruitment with a couple of friends in almost every chapter and, of course, the dreaded preconceptions. After reading so much on this forum, I know to go in with an open mind! However, here's what I know/think about each chapter so far. I am fully prepared to leave these biases at the door.

Captain America One of the very "top" chapters at my school; known to party a lot; rumors of hazing; a girl on my hall last year pledged Captain America and she was very sweet and really pretty, but I never knew her that well.
Daredevil Not one of the "upper tier" chapters; a girl on my hall pledged Daredevil and she complains all the time, but I've also met several really fun, nice girls from this chapter.
Doctor Strange Typically considered the weakest chapter; really struggles during formal recruitment; gets most of their girls through informal and COB; lots of sweet girls and definitely fills a niche on campus.
Hulk Know a few girls in Hulk and they are all very fun, nice girls,; another "top" chapter.
Iron Man Same as Hulk.
Mr. Fantastic Haven't heard much about them.
Ms. Marvel Stereotyped as the "rich girl" sorority, but the few girls I know in this house don't fit the stereotype at all.
Silver Surfer Only know one girl here; I haven't heard or seen much about them on campus yet.
Spider-man Really sweet, involved girls; host the hugest, most successful philanthropy event on campus every year.
Thor Only know one girl here and I feel like she's been rushing me all year. I'm not the biggest fan of her, and her Big once cornered me at a party and tried to convince me to join her sport's club. Don't know anyone else here.
Wolverine My roommate is in this sorority. So far, I really like everyone I've met in it. Similar to Hulk and Iron Man.

I met my recruitment group today. We're all sophomores. A friend who lives in my hall is rushing too, I'll call her Rogue. There's also the Girls Next Door, who are also in our group.

Today was the first day of Open House round! It was so much fun. Our Rho Chis would only tell us one house at a time and I was soo nervous when I heard that we had Captain America first! It was really intimidating. When we lined up outside, I didn't know what to expect. I had researched recruitment so much but suddenly I started to think of all the things I hadn't done: practiced questions, bought new sandals, etc. Everyone got out their calling cards and the door opened. We filed in and we were each introduced by the Rho Chi to the girl at the front door and by the girl at the front door to the President. The girl assigned to talk to each person met her at the bottom of the stairs.

Captain America: There were so many people everywhere and the house was completely packed! The girl I had led me out to the porch, where we sat on a bench and started talking. She was awesome! She seemed like someone I would have been friends with if we had just met in class or something. The next girl I had was soo enthusiastic, I loved it. The third girl, however did not seem into our conversation at all, like she was too cool for the whole thing. The last girl was very sweet but not a terrible good rusher. The conversation stalled and she kept talking about how she had no idea what she was doing. Overall, a great first recruitment experience! Being in this house built my confidence about the whole process. I hadn't previously considered myself a great fit for this chapter and had expected to not have a great time. But I did! It was great.

Hulk: I actually had a rec for this house (very uncommon for my school, but a family friend insisted). Three of the four girls I talked to were awesome. One of them is actually a friend of mine! It was great. The fourth girl only talked about herself the whole time, which was a little off-putting but less work for me. It was also soo loud in here I had to yell. Really, really liked it here.

Silver Surfer: I was expecting to really like this house but the conversations I had were just awkward and filled with long pauses. I didn't connect with any of the girls I talked to. Rogue LOVED this house and I'm really hoping they don't cut me so I can give them a second chance.

Thor: The color scheme in the house was overwhelming. Had two very strange conversations, one with a girl who was actually borderline rude. The third girl I talked to, though, was soo sweet!

Wolverine: My roommate's sorority. I didn't see her while I was there but I LOVED it. Loved all the girls I talked to and could really see myself here.

Spider-man: Even though everyone was tired by this point, I had amazing conversations here. Talked to one girl about travel for ten minutes. I could see myself here, as well.

Tomorrow we'll visit the remaining five sororities. I can't wait!
