Ok...before I got sidetracked by that John thread...
Don't politicians ever learn? Just hours after winning California's GOP Senate nomination, Carly Fiorina was unknowingly captured on a live microphone trashing her Democratic rival Barbara Boxer's hair. "God, what is that hair?" the former Hewlett Packard chief said, quoting a friend. "Sooo yesterday," Fiorina giggled, smoothing her own short coif. You can watch the video of Fiorina's off-air remarks here (courtesy of ABC News):
The GOP hopeful was recorded as she sat waiting to be interviewed by Sacramento's KXTV Wednesday morning though it's unclear whether the video actually aired on live TV or leaked out after the fact. Either way, it's likely to haunt her for the rest of the campaign not just because of endless play on cable TV but because politically, she wasn't just heard gossiping about her general election opponent, Boxer.
As she yawns and checks her BlackBerry in antipication of her on-air interview, Fiorina also wonders out loud about GOP gubernatorial nominee Meg Whitman's decision to go on Fox News host Sean Hannity's show the day after winning the primary. "I think it's bizarre. I mean, she's never been on Sean Hannity. I think it's a very bad choice, actually. You know how he is," Fiorina says in the video. "Why after saying no to all these people would you go on Sean Hannity?"
Her campaign played down the remarks as nothing more than "early-morning small talk," and in an interview with Fox News' Greta Van Susteren, Fiorina defended comments on Boxer by saying that she was merely "quoting a friend." "My goodness, my hair's been talked about by a million people, you know?" Fiorina said. "It sort of goes with the territory."
