Winter Classic - How do you keep warm???

I am attending the Winter Classic this year in Fenway and I'm really excited to watch my beloved Flyers (even though they are sucking right now) play the Bruins on New Years Day. However, I am NOT excited to be outside in the frigid Massachusetts winter temps. Since I am not an outdoorsy person at all, and tend to hibernate when it gets to below 50 degrees, any suggestions as to what I should wear/protect myself in the freezing cold for 3 hours?

A snuggie.

ETA: Ok serious now, I would suggest a blanket (although i'm an avid snuggie-hater) but if you anticipate standing and sitting a lot, then a blanket would be useless. I would find a really warm jacket/pullover or the like. My dad has this reeeeeeeally warm Giants pullover that I used when I went up in the mountains to go play in the snow. It kept me not only dry, but super warm! I coupled that with some head covering (I wore a baseball cap, and then pulled a knit cap over it) and some gloves, and I was set. That and some "long johns" under some pants should keep you nice and warm.

I layer like crazy! I make my top two layers a thick hoodie (like my lettered sweatshirt) and then my winter coat. Nice and toasty And of course there are layers under that :P

And don't forget some nice gloves!

Get the hand and foot warmer packs that they sell in sporting goods stores for hunters, etc. There are also heated seat cushions. The foot warmers though are great.

If you're female (as your name suggests) under my pants, I put on an old pair of pantyhose or tights. You know the ones that have runs longer than Michael Phelps arms. Then put on a good pair of boots (or comfy shoes) that are warm as could be.
Then get to layering like crazy.

I recommend a nice warm winter hat, and warm mittens. In winter, I often use a pashmina shawl to cover my head and neck - toasty warm and stylish.

But seriously, I've found it a good idea to keep your head and feet warm! That is where you release a lot of body heat. I grew up somewhere without seasons and learned this the hard way when I went to college: Hats don't always look great but they work wonders(they look goofy on me and I refused to wear them till I had to live in cold weather lol) And I've noticed that a good pair of boots with warm socks under warms my whole body too.

I don't think I want to give you any advice because a) you're going to the one game I would have LOVED to attend, and b) you're rooting for the wrong team.

But seriously... I was in Boston on one of the coldest days of the year in 2002, when the Patriots had their first Superbowl parade. I was outside for hours. What I wore/brought with me:

- wore 2 pairs of socks and brought 2 more (just in case the first ones got wet/cold)
- heavy boots
- long johns and jeans
- t-shirt, long-sleeve shirt, sweatshirt
- heavy winter ski jacket
- wore 1 pair of cloth gloves, brought another
- heavy gloves
- scarf
- hat

I brought hand warmer packs (which also work well on your feet). I wouldn't bother bringing blankets, because I know from experience that the seats in Fenway are extremely small, and you won't have a lot of room to bring additional items. Hopefully once you're there, the other people around you will provide extra heat.

Same with me! But seriously... don't be one of those girls who cares more about her looks than the weather. I've seen it too many times before, and those girls end up bitching to the people they're with about how cold they are. Be prepared to look like a dork. I guarantee it's better than being miserable.

Have fun!

I agree with libramunoz: Get yourself a pair of opaque hose. They really make a big difference yet aren't a bulky layer.

Seriously, if Joe Namath did it, it does work! I live in TX and yes it can get booty licking cold! And don't let the wind get to blowing!

But really, wearing a pair of hose under your jeans, it does work wonders! It's like having on a pair of warm jammies on under your pants.

Also, nobody is lying about the hats! Either wear a hoodie, a skull cap, or a hat or all three! Believe me! Don't forget the earmuffs if need be. Also get a pair of Thinsulate gloves. My Lord, My God, do they work wonders!!!!! If you have a Wally World near you (Wal-Mart) then you can get a pair for $5.00--look in the men's section.

It is all about layering. It's just like when you were a kid. It's easier to pull off when you're over hot than it is to put on and you don't have anything else to work with.
