GPA AND GETING A BID!

im PLANNING TO ATTEND EITHER MISSOURI STATE OR CENTRAL MISSOURI IN THE FALL. AND I FOUND OUT THAT I HAVE A 2.75 GPA. THE MINIMUM RANGE FROM 2.3 TO 2.75... I PLAN TO TAKE A COUPLE OF SUMMER CLASSES TO RAISE MY GPA SOME?? IS MY GPA GOOD ENOUGH?.... CAN I NOT RECEIVE A BID BECAUSE OF THIS? IM A LITTLE NERVOUS ALSO.... IF I RECEIVE A BID FROM ANY OF THE SORORITIES I WILL BE GRATEFULLY...ADVICE?

Im a newbie so this may not be completely 100 percent accurat but...when i went though recruitment i know girls who did not have the minimum GPA required by a chapter were not asked back to those houses (from my experience I was going through recruitment so this was the statements from gamma chis and other pnms), however they were asked back to houses who had a lower gpa requirement. If this was the case you should be fine (as long as it is not a super cometetive system) as long as your GPA is at least the minimum for each chapter. For example our Gpa requirement is a 3.0 so u would probably not be asked back . Yet ABC's GPA requirement is a 2.45 so you would be elliglibgle, depending on how you conected with the active sisters, to be asked back.

We aren't in those chapters, so we can't say whether your GPA is good enough.

You may meet the min. requirement for most of the chapters, but FYI: meeting the min. GPA does not necessarily = an invite back to the next round or a bid.

The minimum is the min. you need to be CONSIDERED by a chapter.

Also, if many other PNMs have higher GPAs, your 2.75 looks ALOT less impressive to the chapters, even if you do meet their minimum.

At any rate, even if it is sufficient for some chapters during recruitment, you should probably raise it anyhow. You're in college for an education!

As KSUViolet pointed out, even if you have the minimum you will be competing with other PNMs who have far better GPAs. You will need to stand out in other ways through your personality and resume activities. I also suggest getting Recs even if yours isn't a campus that needs them.

In less than 5 minutes, I was able to pull up the past few years' worth of chapter grades from both of those campuses. New members at UCM have an average of above a 3.0 for their GPA and while Missouri State didn't report new members' GPAs, their chapter GPAs are mostly above 3.0 as well. And, from what I remember, high school classes are much easier than college classes. So it should be easier to have a higher GPA in high school rather than in college. So..... I guess you could try, but just keep in mind that just because you may technically qualify because of your grades, you should probably have a ridiculous amount of extracurriculars or have something else that really shines. But if all we're supposed to judge you on in this forum is your GPA, then I'd say... meh. Mediocre at best.

Are you entering as a freshman? Taking summer classes most likely won't help, since they'll be looking at your high school GPA, which sucks. It may be a good idea for you personally, though, in order to get used to the "courseload." Or being literate on the daily.

I'm not trying to be all Judgey McJudgerson, but you should go to UCM (I'm not even from Missouri, but I can tell that's where a lot of the stupid kids end up nowadays).

Is it possible to take matriculated classes the summer before the fall you are to begin, and if so, could they counted against your new college GPA?

Depends on the school I would think. I know somebody who took class their freshman summer at my alma mater.
