FSU sorority cost, rush etc

So, this year i am going through recruitment at FSU! I guess this thread would be specifically for FSU people since these are specific questions. Last year, i didn't want to burden my parents with the cost especially since i lived on campus and had to purchase a meal plan, but this year I am super excited to be a sophomore rushing! I know I probably won't always have a full schedule during rush week plus i dont have any recs but i won't let that stop me (: If I am meant to be somewhere I will end up there! A few of my questions are, for skit day can you wear heels/wedges? I hear almost 1300 girls are rushing and I was wondering if quota is adjusted to that. And most importantly, I looked at the detailed financial sheet for all the sororities and noticed that almost all of them have payment plans or said 'personalized payment plans' will be made on a cas by case basis. I can afford a sorority but only if the dues are spread out in monthly payments for the more expensive ones. I was wondering if anyone knew which ones have better than 'first 3 month' payment plans or if sororities actually will make a personal payment plan tending to your financial needs. sorry this is so long! thanks in advanced! and maybe i'll post a recruitment story once the week has started!

*As far as quota goes, I can tell you that it is not set until after the last round (Preference). Quota is determined by the number of girls who attend Preference parties. There won't be 1300 girls come Preference time.

*In terms of payment plans, every sorority is different. Also, alot of sorority members are only familiar with the financial workings of their OWN chapter. They don't know if another sorority has payment plans or not, or how they work. We don't have that info because we aren't in those chapters.

You are setting yourself up for heartbreak with this. If you can't afford it, don't go through rush. If you fall in love with one group but end up pledging another because it was cheaper, trust me, you will not be a happy camper.

well i'm planning on finding out more info on philanthropy day when they discuss the financial obligations more. If I can't afford it then I will drop, the main part of me rushing is just for the fun of it! if i find a house that i love and can afford then great if not, oh well.

I cannot stress how important it is to thoughtfully consider whether you can realistically afford to be in a sorority BEFORE recruitment.

let me rephrase my financial situation, I can afford a sorority realistically but I say 'only' because I'd like to not make my parents pay for sorority things. It would be easier on me and my parents for a financial payment plan, but if there arent payment plans I can make it work i'm almost positive. I appreciate your concern (: I've been told everybody is encouraged to go through recruitment regardless if you plan to join one or not just for the experience

To my knowledge, there is not. Sophomores can get bids there, but they have to be pretty stellar. It's a school with more of a preference for freshmen.

Going through "just for the experience" once finances are explained and you know you can't afford or even if you don't want to join anymore it is potentially taking a spot that could go to a woman who wants to be there and can afford it.

I'm going through recruitment also at FSU, as a freshman, and trust me, I WANT A BID!!!

However, I did Summer C Session and I've talked to a girls in my dorm, classes, etc. and many of them are going through rush just for the "experience", and have no intention of accepting a bid, they just want to see who they can get. This made me so sad, because what if there is a girl out there that really wants a bid and doesn't get one because of these girls?!

Hopefully they will drop out before pref. If not, their spot will go to the next person up on the sorority's bid list. They won't be taking a bid away from anyone if they don't pledge. (Also, I am guessing girls like this are easy for the sororities to spot.)

trust me i want a bid too (: but if i feel it's not right for me or things become too unrealistic financially for me i will drop but I am definitely wanting a bid and wanting to start a bunch of new friendships and join a sisterhood!

Just a note here:

If you're talking about ACCEPTING a bid and then dropping out/depledging--please be sure that it's something you financially can handle BEFORE you accept a bid (should you receive one).

no no I mean I would drop out of recruitment. I feel as though I am being misunderstood. I really want a bid, and as far as i can tell from the detailed financial plan, I can afford it. But if I go to philanthropy day, (the 2nd round of recruitment for us) which is when they go into more detail about financial responsibilities, and somehow realize something about the cost I didn't before and I can't afford it, I will drop out of recruitment. I really do want to join a sorority and have a great week of recruitment.
