NJ Lawmakers arrested

NEWARK, N.J. – The mayors of two New Jersey cities and a state legislator are under arrest Thursday as part of a major corruption and international money laundering conspiracy probe.

Federal prosecutors say about 30 people have been arrested in the two-track investigation. They include Assemblyman Daniel Van Pelt, Hoboken Mayor Peter Cammarano III and Secaucus Mayor Dennis Elwell. Federal prosecutors say several rabbis in New York and New Jersey are also arrested.

A news conference is scheduled for noon at the U.S. attorney's office in Newark.

You have to love NJ. The thing that makes me is sad is that two of them are from my hometown.

Rabbis? This could really end up being bizarre.

I have to laugh that Hoboken's mayor has been in office for about 3 weeks.

Corruption really is nothing new up here. I've been watching the press conference now. Looks like the rabbi's took the corruption abroad, using contacts in Israel.

Wow. A scheme for kidneys giving the donor $10,000 and selling the kidney for $160,000.

Money Laundering too. Nice.

Sharp James anyone? I hope that Healy isn't involved, but considering the rest that are it wouldn't shock me.

44 people

from the Wall Street Journal:

Mayors Peter Cammarano III of Hoboken, Dennis Elwell of Secaucus and Anthony Suarez of Ridgefield, all Democrats; Leona Beldini, one of three deputy mayors of Jersey City, also a Democrat; and state Assemblyman Daniel Van Pelt, a Republican.

In all, 29 people were caught up in the probe into public corruption, and 15 were implicated in the investigation into money laundering, including one Brooklyn man charged with conspiring to broker the sale of a kidney.

how do rabbis fare in prison?

there was one rabbi back in brooklyn, in the 90s, that got time for kidnapping. he lives in canada, now, i guess.

Keep it classy, dirty Jerz!

But seriously you guys--rabbis involved in kidney fraud? I wouldn't put it past the Baptist ministers who tool around in giant Cadillacs and have bad toupees. I expect more of rabbis.

Yeah I know. That has been the general response I have been getting. "Rabbis? wtf?" well obviously not in text speak but yeah.
