Spreading the word around campus

My buddies and I are in the process of starting Greek life on our campus. We are trying to come up with ways to present the positive information about Greek like to the students around campus. All we can think to do is a survey. What other ways could we get the word out to people to grab their interest?

We have taken the initiative of talking to our VP at our university. Our university is based around community involvement which makes a Greek life a good idea. We are well aware of the effort and time that are needed to be put into this.

We are in the process of presenting material to our President to accept the idea of allowing Greek life. What we need though is to get the word to the students to get their involvement and help out.

What should we do other than a survery?

Do you have a campus newspaper? Call them and see if you can talk to an editor or reporter. Bringing Greek life to campus would really impact student life, so you may want to try and persuade them to do an article on your efforts.

There are always more traditional ways: flyers, banners, ads on Facebook, an information table at the student center.

Find out what the largest and most active student organizations are on your campus. Go to the meetings for these clubs and address the members about your efforts. I would start with student government. Ask the members if they would be interested. Ask them to help spread the word.

We had the idea to pass around an information flyer about the actual goals of Greek life. It would talk about the community involvement and student opportunities. We wanted students to know that Greek life is not like Animal House, Old School, etc...

After passing out flyers and having banners and stuff would it be a good idea to have a presentation over the benefits and such of Greek life? Show the students why it's good to do this and what they can get out of it?

I would definitely suggest having a presentation or meeting once you have garnered enough interest to get a successful turnout. By giving people a chance to talk with you and ask questions, they would be much more likely to show continued interest rather than just a flyer or handout. It would also give people a chance to meet each other, and help them realize that Greek life is a perfect way to meet people and make connections. A third advantage would be that rather than having to man a table on campus, you would be able to explain the benefits and process to a large number of people at the same time.
