Live Story - Sorority Recruitment Spring '08

I LOVE reading everyone’s recruitment stories, it’s definitely helped me learn what to expect from rush. So I figured I’ll post mine too - here it is!

And obviously if you know or think you know what school I go to PLEASE do NOT write it here, but PM me! I’m a little apprehensive about posting this online as it is happening to begin with. But I’d be more than happy to talk to you via PM.

So here’s the basics:
My school has six sororities.
Rush is 5 days, including bid day. All the good stuff starts tomorrow.
I’ve been waiting for this for months so right now I am so incredibly excited.
I’m the first person in my family to even consider a sorority/fraternity (my mom thinks I’m crazy, all she really knows about Greek life is what she’s seen in movies or in the news though)

Rush is deferred, obviously. Here’s the impressions I have of the sororities so far. (I know, pre-judgments are bad. But hey, they’re also sort of unavoidable when rush is deferred) and I’m naming them after classic actresses!

Judy Garland: I know a couple girls in this sorority. My overall opinion is that they are the crazy, hilarious, bubbly, fun-loving bunch of girls. So I find it interesting that I am drawn to them because I am more reserved, and while I love having a good time with my friends I don’t totally see myself here. However a few of these girls have been very very good friends of mine. I’m excited to see what they’re about, I have a feeling it’s going to be a lot of fun crazy energy

Ingrid Bergman: I do not know a single person in this sorority, so I can’t really say anything here. From what I’ve heard, their reputation on campus is not the greatest. I briefly met one girl though and she was really nice and hilarious! So even though I’ve heard bad things about the chapter, the one girl I met last semester totally erased all of those thoughts. Just an example of how one person can represent an organization well. And since I got such a great impression from that girl and because I don’t know too much about them, this is one of my favorites going in.

Audrey Hepburn: I’m going to be honest. This sorority is the reason I’m rushing. BUT, that doesn’t mean I have my heart set on it or am even sure it would be a good fit for me. I’m just saying that from what I’ve seen of the sisters I’ve gotten a shining impression of Greek Life. I’ve noticed these girls on campus and in some of my classes, and they are gorgeous, smart, poised, and it seems like they have it all together. Plus, I love their philanthropy. So I’m definitely looking forward to seeing more of this sorority during recruitment.

Grace Kelly: All the girls here love their sorority and have a lot of spirit. They’re also very sweet. I wouldn’t say they stand out to me for anything I can explain, but it’s definitely refreshing to meet people who are down to earth and just love what they do. I am definitely interested to visit them during recruitment, but I’m not really sure what to expect. I don’t have any friends who are in this sorority so I cant really say much more.

Elizabeth Taylor: These girls seem like they have a great dynamic with one another. None of them have ever struck me as friendly, but I think once you’re in their group of friends you get along great. I’ve heard its rather clique-y and I’ll be honest, I’ve noticed sort of a snotty air from a few. But I will say it is a few and I’m sure most of the girls are down to earth. I don’t really know many Elizabeth Taylor's personally so I don’t want to make any hasty generalizations.

Deborah Kerr: Once again, I know very little about this sorority. I’ve heard they’ve won awards on campus and that it’s a good sorority to be in. That’s really all I can say.

I’m really just hoping to find a group of girls with whom I can be a totally uninhibited version of my goofball self and still be totally comfortable. Girls who I could be good friends with during college and after.

I’ll write more soon when something interesting finally happens!

and oh my gosh this is totally unrelated but the people who live above me have been slamming stuff around for the last hour and a half. I’m pretty sure it’s nothing scandalous but it sounds like they’re throwing furniture around. Haha whaaaaatt. Maybe I’ll investigate....
