Sororities and crazy women!!!
What is it about sorority rush and AI that attract a lot of crazy people? I don't see this pattern as much in other organizations, including fraternities!

Human nature-- we all want to belong and fit in. Even the non-conformists conform to a non-conformist culture-- the goths, the skin heads, etc. Being a sorority member seems like the perfect way to keep up with Jones and be thought of as poised, classy and someone who fits in with mainstream society. Some people get a bit obsessive, and maybe use the seemingly anonymnity of the internet to share details of their life that are far too intimate.

I understand that. But, aren't fraternities at the top of the social totem pole on college campuses also? 33girl might be right, but personally I have only witnessed this sort of craziness once with fraternities. I guess it varies from school to school.

Girls are more likely to talk about everything and publicize it. That's why we get lots of sorority recruitment threads every semester and hardly ever any fraternity ones. (Only one comes to mind, actually.)

Random question. The year I went through recruitment, do you remember the goth girl? She wore all black on 'Go UCF Day' and had one of those bar earrings that went through her septum. She also had some scary makeup going on. I have no clue why she rushed...probably just to see if she'd get in anywhere. I never saw her again after the first day so I'm assuming she dropped or was cut by everyone.

I know a girl who is sort of a hippiechick, and she is in a sorority. Alumna now, though.

Really? I thought we all had to be Stepford Wives, out to get our "MRS" degree?

Can't be Stepford Wives, because no sorority would ever take a married woman. The point of a sorority is to meet a husband, duh.

I think it's because sorority rush is kind of a cattle call (No fat jokes please) ALL women who want to join, come now. Instead of going, often by yourself or with a roommate, to a fraternity rush event. As tough as sorority rush is, you face it with members of your PNM group.
