Legacy x 4
I'm sort of worried about going through recruitment this fall. The reason I'm so nervous aside from normal reasons is :: I'm a legacy to multiple chapters.
All of these chapters are on my campus! I'm nervous about how this will play out within Rush. Will sororities think it's weird/intimidating?
I am smart, attractive and super friendly. I don't see why I would not do well in recruitment but my family is telling me I should not put down all my legacies and pick 2 and just rush those 2 really hard. But how would I even begin to pick without knowing them? And I think you have to visit them all anyways.....Right?
I'm attending Appalachian State University
What do you all think?

I'm confused as to what you/they mean about this. I understand they're encouraging you to only list 2 out of your 4 legacy connections (which I personally think is not a good idea), but why would they say just rush those 2 really hard? We are talking formal rush here right?

I am a legacy to 4 different chapters. What they mean is only put down 2 and not look as much into the other ones in recruitment.

I guess I am still confused as to why you would not want to look at all your options... you never know who you are going to mesh with. Plus

Blah... stupid computer.
Plus, you never know who you are going to mesh with. If this is a structured type of formal recruitment, I believe you have to visit all of the sororities at least once. What if the 2 you have chosen to persue don't invite you back?

I DO want to look at all my options! I am just not sure if having a legacy status to 4 chapters out of 8 is going to hurt me in recruitment or help me.

I don't think you should be nervous, just go with the flow and have fun. Being a legacy won't guarantee you anything, anyways! I would definitely put down all 4 chapters, if anything the chapters will want you more because your family is so involved in Greek life.
Do you mind sharing which ones you're a legacy to?

I personally think it could only stand to help you! I know this advice is cliche, but just be yourself and do your best, and remember to look at all your options (remember this means the other 4 chapters too!).

I'm actually curious too! But don't feel pressured to tell if you're not comfortable.

Thanks And I hope it does help. I am a little worried. I've heard that once other sororities see you are a legacy to a different one than they cut you because they think you are going the one you are a legacy for.
Should I tell them I am one through recruitment or just ignore it? I want them to somehow know I am trying to keep an open mind instead of only looking at the ones I have a leg for.
I'm a legacy to: Alpha Delta Pi, Phi Mu, Kappa Delta and Alpha Phi
all from my Sisters, Mother and Grandmother!

If you are a legacy to 4 different chapters, you should remain very openminded and get to know all 4 PLUS the other 4 on your campus. You are certainly under no obligation to list all 4 on your application, but I don't think it would be wrong to do so.
The last thing you want anyone to think/hear/know is that you are only interested in 2 houses. Take a few minutes to read some of the info on this website and you will learn that virtually everyone on here is going to encourage you to keep an open mind about all of the houses on your campus.
Admittedly, I know nothing about rush on your campus, but my instinct is for you to list all of your affiliations and make it known as you meet sorority women, etc that you are looking forward to recruitment and have no idea where you will end up and are not focusing (or counting on) a particular house.

I actually think at my chapter this would make us want to rush you harder to get you to join!

A few things:
During formal recruitment, you must visit all chapters to which you are invited. So "picking 2" really isn't an option.
Ruling out chapters also really decreases your chances of having a successful recruitment.
The best thing to do during recruitment is to keep an open mind about ALL chapters and don't limit yourself.
Also just a note: Being a legacy doesn't necessarily mean you are guaranteed get a bid to any of those.
You can't really worry about being a legacy. Chapters are generally used to meeting women who are legacies to their sorority and others on campus (even at my school with a smallish Greek system).
I've heard of chapters releasing girls who are legacies to other chapters, but really what can you do about that if it happens? Nothing.
So just relax, be open-minded and see what happens.

This is really up to you. Generally there is a spot for you to include this in your recruitment applicaton.
Depending on your school, other chapters may only be able to view legacy info if it applies to them.
At some schools, legacy info is seen by all chapters.
At the end of the day, if a chapter is going to cut you for being a legacy to someone else, what can you really do about it?
