Sweethearts

At my school, the fraternities only have ONE Sweetheart. But, at the schools most of my friends go to, they have Sweetheart courts.

What is more common? And why do we just have one? And why do they have so many?

No one seems to know. I guess what I was more curious about was, did most people have a sweetheart court or just one single sweetheart.

i heard the sweetheart courts were a way to get around the no little sisters rule, when many of the fraternities adopted so as to maintain their single-sex distinction.

That was my impression. Three of the fraternities on my campus had courts. I don't remember the other chapter even having a sweetheart, but I really only remember that they were constantly in trouble! The chapters with courts always had a main sweetheart, however, like Pike's Dreamgirl.
