**We approached our Activities/Student Union Director last semester about this and she told us she had no time to help us. As an update for those who were giving me advice in that thread, this time I jumped over her head and went straight to Dean of Students to ask for a letter. We're not getting our hopes up (too much anyway, lol) but are interested in researching the different sororities that typically cater to colleges like mine.

**I know people are going to ask, so...we are the only sorority on campus and there are two national fraternities. We are a public, 4 year college, mostly commuters but there are many students who reside on campus. We do not have a Greek Council or anything of the sort.

If you have any other questions, let me know!
1. OK can we PLEASE learn to spell "sorority" correctly? that's not just to you, but how many websites have i seen it spelled: "soroirty" "sorortiy" and "sority" its annoying.

2. i know im not NPC or anything, but ... actually, im gonna read all your posts so i can make an informed response, as best as i can anyway.

3. psst - isnt that "only the best wear the crown" maxim a ZTA thing?

Of course that information won't be readily available on the website.

Unless you're an Inter/National Officer or Director of Extension (I know of at least 3 or 4 who post on GC), I'd caution anyone else from sharing their opinion.

The best thing to do is to get permission from student life for your campus to open for expansion for NPC sororities, and then go from there as far as what sororities send you info showing they are interested. Like OTW said, the only people qualified to answer that are expansion directors or national officers, and I will personally give each and every GCer a million dollars if any of them actually answer your question in a public forum.

Pigeonholing sororities (i.e. they're southern, they're commuter school, or anything else) is not good form.

Suggestion: Take a look at schools that are similar to URI (I believe that's where you said you were) and see what, if any, NPCs are there.

And you need to get permission from Student Life before going ahead to do this...

No NPC really caters to a specific school type. We all have chapters at big schools, small schools, commuter schools, southern schools, schools with alot of sororities, and schools with like one or 2 sororities.

I knew it was somewhere up here...

And KSUViolet is right...we all have chapters are many different typoes of schools.

Another good thing is to check out what groups have chapters up in RI/MA/Northern CT

As far as I can tell there is only one other sorority on that campus and it is not NPC affiliated.

First of all you need to determine if there are campus restrictions to bringing in a national 'social' sorority. If not, you will probably need to get approval from the campus administration to start the extension process.

As you begin those inquiries, you can start getting information from the NPC itself by visiting http://www.npcwomen.org/college/c_ex..._resources.php and download materials with information.

You could see if there is an active alumnae Panhellenic organization near you - they wouldn't necessarily be able to give you specific information on any one NPC group, but they may be able to discuss general extension information with you. (It would likely be a lot of the same type of info that you received in the packet from NPC, but sometimes its nice to actually speak with a person near your area also!)

I agree with the other ladies that most (if not all) of the NPC groups have chapters at a wide range of schools. If you get approval from the university, you should be able to find a group among the NPC organizations that will be able to function on a commuter school campus.

I think that EVERY time I read her posts. Sharing symbols with another sorority is one thing, but stealing/using their saying just seems gauche.

Like I said in my PM...just make sure that you include your alpha class in the building process of your organization. Each class contributes something to the success of your sorority. The early classes contribute the traditions and foundations of establishing your organization.

When you are recruiting your early classes make sure that they know their significance in the history of your organization. The beauty of a local is that you can mold it to be whatever you as an organization want it to be, and not just what a national has already said you have to be.

Find a faculty advisor. She (or he) can serve as someone to help you figure out the logistics, and steer you in the right direction.
