Has anyone been watching this show? All I have to say is that it is my new favorite reality show... love seeing what the kids are going to look like at the age of 40 if they eat healthy compared if they dont. Good reality tv...did anyone watch the crazy NYers on last night? Oh my...

I watched it. While I don't doubt that the computer generated predictions have some degree of accuracy, I wonder HOW accurate those really are.

One thing I don't like, is that they don't seem to give much credence to the genetics. For instance, some people in the family might have different metabolisms than the others.
When I was little, I ate anything I wanted, whenever I wanted. Granted, I actually loved veggies when I was a kid, but still I was always eating. My mom was overweight when I was a kid, and my dad technically isn't, but at 6'4" and broad-shouldered he looks big. I guess, because of those reasons, people always told my mom she needed to put me on a diet or I'd end up fat. I never did, I was medically underweight for most of my childhood, and ended up with my doctor putting me on a high calorie diet to GAIN weight at 9 years old. Around 15, I finally weighed an appropriate weight for my height.
I saw the episode with the 3 sons. The mom and the eldest two sons seemed to process food differently than the dad and the youngest. Yeah, the youngest didn't eat anything but sugar, but if his metabolism is higher than the others he needs more sugar than they do in addition to more protein and fiber.

Yeah everyone might have different metabolisms but did you see the amounts of junk food that those kids were eating? It was disgusting -- one might have a faster metabolism but no matter if they are fat or skinny and eating like they use to is NOT healthy. They could have heart and health problems down the road if they continued to eat like that...I think it is important for parents to understand that what they do now can affect the kids later on especially with their eating habits. Easier to start them eating healthily now than later on...
Can't wait for next week...

I guess the point I was making was missed.
I was saying that the youngest probably needs more sugar than the older two, not just sugar. Notice I said in addition to more veggies and protein. If your metabolism is faster than normal, even if it is just faster than the other two boys, he's going to need more food. I guess what I'm trying to say is that the same diet won't might not work for all family members.
Also, I don't like the fact that this show seems to be encouraging the general public to pass judgement on others. Not all overweight people eat like that. There are many genetic disorders and diseases that can cause childhood obesity that can't necessarily be handled with diets.

Yeah there are many genetic disorders and diseases that can cause childhood obesity but I think that this show is directed toward unhealthy people (obese or not) -- the first episode there was that family of 5 and one of the kids was skinny as rail but jumping to age 40 he looked soooo much better if he ate healthy compared to unhealthy. It is just scary to think how many people eat the same amount of junk food that these families use to eat. It is disgusting and it is something that families need to take seriously because it can have damaging long term effects...
I am enjoying the show and have got a some of friends hooked as well -- looking forward to next week...
