Honey, We're Killing the Kids
Has anyone been watching this show? All I have to say is that it is my new favorite reality show... love seeing what the kids are going to look like at the age of 40 if they eat healthy compared if they dont. Good reality tv...did anyone watch the crazy NYers on last night? Oh my...

I watched it. While I don't doubt that the computer generated predictions have some degree of accuracy, I wonder HOW accurate those really are.

One thing I don't like, is that they don't seem to give much credence to the genetics. For instance, some people in the family might have different metabolisms than the others.
When I was little, I ate anything I wanted, whenever I wanted. Granted, I actually loved veggies when I was a kid, but still I was always eating. My mom was overweight when I was a kid, and my dad technically isn't, but at 6'4" and broad-shouldered he looks big. I guess, because of those reasons, people always told my mom she needed to put me on a diet or I'd end up fat. I never did, I was medically underweight for most of my childhood, and ended up with my doctor putting me on a high calorie diet to GAIN weight at 9 years old. Around 15, I finally weighed an appropriate weight for my height. I saw the episode with the 3 sons. The mom and the eldest two sons seemed to process food differently than the dad and the youngest. Yeah, the youngest didn't eat anything but sugar, but if his metabolism is higher than the others he needs more sugar than they do in addition to more protein and fiber. |
oh man I thought this thread was about HoneyChile killing kids or something.
I knew she was crazy, but I didn't think she was that crazy. Phew! |

I was saying that the youngest probably needs more sugar than the older two, not just sugar. Notice I said in addition to more veggies and protein. If your metabolism is faster than normal, even if it is just faster than the other two boys, he's going to need more food. I guess what I'm trying to say is that the same diet won't might not work for all family members. Also, I don't like the fact that this show seems to be encouraging the general public to pass judgement on others. Not all overweight people eat like that. There are many genetic disorders and diseases that can cause childhood obesity that can't necessarily be handled with diets. |
