ITT we share stories of horrible roommates
(I searched and didn't find a similar thread - if one is here I apologize in 12 different positions to the person who started the original thread)
http://gawker.com/5879703/these-are-...ommate-stories
Can you top them? I have to go teach "Beowulf" in 21 minutes, so will share mine later.

Ah this could be fun. Should there be separate categories? I am thinking random roomate vs. someone you THOUGHT you knew and dorm roommates versus apartment

I haven't read the article yet but had to share. I had two really awful roommates in my lifetime. None of this is exaggerated.
Horrible Roommate #1
- This girl was a food slob - she left chicken bones (she was always eating the cafeteria's nasty fried chicken) and pizza crusts all over the room.
- She also kept her clothes strewn all over her side of the room and just picked up stuff off the floor when she wanted to wear it.
- She turned the phone off at 9pm (it was in her name but we split the bill) and I remember I had to beg her on bid night (we had to wait in our rooms for either a phone call saying we didn't get a bid) to keep it on until midnight.
- She would call her parents every single day for at least an hour, sometimes more than once a day.
- Her parents came to visit (4 hours away) most weekends and spent the night ON THE FLOOR.
- She was very religious and openly questioned a lot of things I did - like have a steady boyfriend, pledging, going to parties, etc. She'd say things like "do you really think it's a good idea to go out two nights in a row?" or "how serious are you going to get with your boyfriend?". As if any of it was her business. I tried to sleep anywhere but my own dorm room as frequently as possible that semester.
- She never left the room, except for class, church, and EMT calls (she was on the campus EMT squad). I never had any time for myself in the room.
Horrible Roommate #2 was MEAN. I recently found an essay I had written about her for one of my writing classes.
- Even though she knew about my lung disease, she'd smoke (tobacco and pot) in the room with her friends.
- She would bring people in the room at 1am on weeknights when I was already asleep, and they'd come sit on my bed (as I was trying to sleep), eating my food, playing music and just plain obnoxious.
- She and our next-door neighbor would take stuff off my bed and either chuck them on the floor or throw them out the window. I had a couple of stuffed animals, one of those headrest/pillow things, and several sleep pillows (not decorative) and she'd come in my room when I wasn't there and just toss stuff. I'd come home from class to find stuff missing or damaged.
- She'd find which washer I was using to do my laundry and turn it off mid-cycle so the clothes would just sit in a tub or water, or she'd take my clothes out of the dryer mid-cycle and throw them on the nasty floor.
- While I was in the shower, she would take my towel or clothes from the bathroom.
- I moved out the following semester (to the room next door, which was going to be empty because next door neighbor moved in with her) and the two of them would bang stuff against our shared wall, or knock on my door incessantly, to try to upset me.
I was so happy when I started rooming with who would be my final roommate for the rest of my college career. We became best friends while pledging. She was just chill, fun to be around, and we had each others backs.

We definitely do, but no idea where or how long ago the thread died.
But I cracked up at "I apologize in 12 different positions."
ETA: Found it!

I am sorry there is now more than 1 thread - but hey! More fun for all!
My horror story - My sophomore year I transferred from one school to another (SWTSU - represent!). It happened to be a time of a massive enrollment spike, so despite having applied to live on campus I was told 2 weeks before school that sophomores would have to find housing elsewhere. Obviously, everything was leased. I found an apartment under construction that I could get an apartment in, but I had no roommate. No problem! They had another young woman in the same boat. So - I lived at the Ramada Inn at their expense while they finished my apartment. I then moved in with the daughter of a prominent Baptist church in Ausin (Riverbend Baptist - http://www.gmm.org/). She was transferring from Baylor where she had apparently gotten into some kind of trouble. RED FLAG. She was a slob, which seems to be the first requirement for a bad roommate. I was working weekends at the Texas Renaissance Festival, which meant I left Friday afternoon and came back early Monday morning. She would eat all of my food - and never replace it. When I took to labeling my food she accused me of being "immature". She had a fiance SOMEWHERE - never saw him - but had a male "friend" who was over all the time. She would always give me grief about the air conditioning, and then say she wasn't going to pay her half of the bill. Getting money from her was a problem. She then began to go through my jewelery and wear my MAKEUP on the weekends. We shared a bedroom - and one morning I woke up to the sight of her and her naked male friend in her bed. That was it - I moved out over the Christmas Break. The electricity was in my name, so I turned it off when I moved out. WHOOPS - I left a crab cake in the freezer, which stayed there until January when she moved back. It cost me $10 in cleaning fees, which was well worth it.

I never had a horrible roommate. I suffered through pretty vile clinical depression in my late teens and early 20s, so I'm pretty sure that I was the horrible roommate. Love to those who lived with me and still are friends years later!

Well I guess this isn't HORRIBLE, but it was pretty annoying. Freshman year in the dorms, I lived in a suite-style room with 3 other girls. There were 2 bedrooms, a bathroom, and a living room. The girl I shared a bedroom with was... interesting to say the least. She was a VERY devout Christian, and I'm not religious at all. On move-in day, I came in to here putting bible verses all over the walls, without even asking me. I was like, okay, I guess that's fine, they're kind of inspirational. Things started to get weirder when she revealed to me that she didn't like to look at herself naked, not even after getting out of the shower. One day, I overheard her two hour long phone conversation with her parents about how when she was married, she wanted to wash her husband's feet every day and how she wanted to be a true biblical wife. She laid down some pretty strict rules as to boys in the room. We agreed on no boys after 11pm and no boys sleeping over, unless she was gone. Well one night, she was supposed to have gone home for the weekend and I had my boyfriend over. We were sitting in my bed watching a movie, fully clothed, above the covers. She came in, since she hadn't left yet, and started yelling at me about disrespecting her faith and her values and such. THAT was ridiculous. Another time, she came home and saw me and my boyfriend kissing. Just kissing. She started yelling at me again and crying about how horrible I was. There are a million more crazy stories about her that I could share, but I won't.

I had 6 different roommates my Freshman year... :|
My roommate pledged Xi Gamma (name changed) and was forced to drink a ton one night.
I wake up the next morning in order to go to church (part of my new member reqs) and find my white towels, shower curtains, rug, and EVERYTHING ELSE IN THE BATHROOM covered in vomit and poop.
No joke.
O... M... G.
Also, one of my other roommates stole my camera printer and my credit card ($280 worth)... all on porn...
I could say way more about the others... but damn... ugh.

When I had roommates, I think I was that nightmare roommate. Namely, I literally never cleaned my side of the room and kept extremely odd hours (4am bedtime). Pretty soon, my half of the room looked like it was straight out of hoarders, while my roommate's side was clean. I'm sure he didn't enjoy it.
I eventually got extremely tired of trying my best to even be slightly reasonable, so I decided to not have a roommate the following year. Best decision ever
However, I do still have a couple less than stellar experiences:
1.) That year, my roommate kept extremely odd hours in the opposite direction. He went to bed at 9pm every day. I never figured out when he woke up; according to him, 6am. You can imagine the 7hr of tension between my bedtime and his bedtime.
2.) I once had a serious stoner housemate who smoked pot day and night. He also never cleaned up, but additionally, he'd forget to turn off ovens and stoves, leave all lights on overnight, have the heater on 80 while windows are fully open, and generate noise complaints all hours day and night.

This was my post from the original thread. http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...90&postcount=2 The roomie in question (my senior year) is the reason why I am typing this from my own apartment.
I had 2 roomies Freshman year of college and one was high just about all the time and one was a stripper. You can only imagine how my raised-in-church-sheltered-as-all-hell self handled that. We clashed SO MUCH the stories were more funny than horrible!
One roomie was dressed in....well, I can even describe it. Mostly see-through with some fishnetting. In a few minutes, she came back and said "I have to change...my pimp didn't like it." I found out later she was just joking because she knew it would freak me out.
Late one night, the other roomie came stumbling in totally stoned and loud as all hell. I was already in bed and asked her to keep it down because I had an early class. She called me something to the effect of a nerd with no life for being in bed that early. I (in all my 18yo judgy nerd glory) told her at least I actually go to class instead of stumbling around like a fool. She looked up at me, clearly struggling to bring her eyes into focus and said, "Oh yeah well....your ear stinks."
I have seen them both since college and we still laugh about the times we had. We were so opposite (and senseless) that everyday was hilarious. All of us are completely different now.
