Relations between NPHC orgs and NPC/IFC orgs on my campus are great. Since our school is mostly non-Greek, we figured if we all banded together, the entire Greek system would be stronger.
The girls from Z Phi B love us (I guess it's that whole "we all zetas" thing). We have had a mixer with them, which also included Phi Beta Sigma, Delta Sigma Theta, and Pi Kappa Phi. That was my sophomore year, and it was the first NPHC/NPC/IFC mixer ever on our campus. We've also done service projects with Z Phi B as well.
This past November, AKA hosted Battle of the Party Walks, in which NPHC fraternities were paired with IFC fraternities and NPHC sororities were paired with NPC sororities and we all competed. It was so much fun! We were paired with Delta Sigma Theta (and we won!), and the Zeta Phi Betas were all mad because the Deltas "stole OUR girls." Through that event, I got to be really good friends with a lot of Deltas and we still hang out a lot.
This Saturday night is the NPHC Step Show, and it is a HUGE event. While IFC and NPC orgs are welcome to participate, it's kinda understood that we leave the stepping to the NPHC kids. There is just no way we could compete!! The Deltas have been practicing since November!! But a couple of my sisters and I are going to show our support (and besides, I love going to step shows!).
I think good relations between NPHC orgs and NPC/IFC orgs is very important. First, it can make a campus's entire Greek system stronger. Second, the NPHC orgs do fun stuff that us white kids don't always do!! I grew up in a place that was very racially mixed. When I came to Charleston, I didn't like the almost "voluntary segregation" that seemed to pervade the campus. I mean, I know it's the South, but really. That has begun to change over the past four years, and I am all for it. Yay diversity!!
