Illi is trying to play GLOs like baseball cards...collect them all! It would be kind of neat if a school had enough greek support to have all NIC, NPC, and NPHC groups on one campus.

I can testify to that. I was there attending a Leadership Conference in 2001. I visited the Alpha Chi Chapter of Sig-Tau My first night of the event. I was impressed by the number of Greek Houses at Illinois.

Penn State has a larger greek system. 60+ fraternities, 20 NPCs, 8 NPHC, and a bunch of LGLOS.

At the height of the Illinois greek system, we had over 100 fraternities and over thirty sororities, ALL HOUSED!

It blows my mind.

I'm willing to bet that at least some of these chapters (Panhellenic) either overlap or locals....

Because their are 19 NPC
ΑΧΩ, ΑΔΠ, ΑΕΦ, ΑΓΔ, ΑΟΠ, ΑΦ, ΧΩ, ΔΔΔ, ΔΓ, ΔΖ, ΓΦΒ, ΚΑΘ, ΚΔ, ΚΚΓ, ΦΜ, ΦΣΣ, ΠΒΦ, , ΣΔΤ, ΣΚ

and 4 Non-NPC that are part of the panhellenic council and participate in formal recruitment in some form or another
4-H , ΑΩΕ, ΔΞΦ, ΣΑ

NPHC
ΑΚΑ, ΔΣΘ, ΣΓΡ, ΖΦΒ

United Council
ΑΔΡ, αΚΔΦ, ΛΤΩ, ΛΘΑ, ΣΙΑ

So there are a total of 32 Sororities at UIUC

Thank you Gwyn, I was thinking the same thing but too lazy to figure it out.

As far as the Penn State vs Illinois thing, I believe the answer is that Penn State has more organizations, but Illinois has more students participating. So you can take "largest" either way.

There are groups on campus that don't belong to any council, or at least there were when I was there (Phi Beta Chi, for example).

Here's the news release I received from Princeton Review:

PRINCETON REVIEW ANNUAL COLLEGE RANKINGS

BASED ON 110,000 STUDENT SURVEY

NOW OUT IN "BEST 361 COLLEGES: 2006 EDN."

NEW YORK, Aug. 22, 2005, 2 pm ET -- According to a survey by The Princeton Review that asked 110,000 students at 361 top colleges to rate their schools and report on their campus experiences, Reed College (Portland OR) has the best academics. It also has the least religious students. Bowdoin College (Brunswick ME) serves up the best campus food and Loyola College (Baltimore MD) has the best dorms. Princeton Univ. (Princeton NJ) is the best administered school and the one at which students are happiest with their financial aid packages.

The Princeton Review's annual ranking lists of top 20 colleges in these and 57 other categories are in the new 2006 edition of "The Best 361 Colleges" (Random House / Princeton Review, $21.95), which goes on sale tomorrow. The book's ranking lists will also be posted on http://www.PrincetonReview.com at 7 pm ET tonight.

"All of the schools in this book are academically outstanding," says its lead author, Princeton Review’s Robert Franek. "But no school is best for all students. That's why our book has 62 different ranking lists and campus feedback about the schools not reported elsewhere. We hope it will help college applicants and their parents decide which college is best for them."

Other ranking lists in "The Best 361 Colleges" and the #1 colleges on them are:

Toughest College to Get Into -- Massachusetts Inst. of Technology (Cambridge MA)

Profs Rated Highest by Their Students -- St. John's College (Santa Fe NM)

Most Beautiful Campus -- Pepperdine Univ. (Malibu CA)

Best College Library -- Harvard College (Cambridge MA)

Best College Newspaper -- Univ. of Arizona (Tucson)

Happiest Students Overall -- Stanford Univ. (Stanford CA)

Frat & Sorority Scene Biggest -- DePauw Univ. (Greencastle IN)

Top Stone-Cold Sober School -- Brigham Young Univ. (Provo UT)

Top Party School -- Univ. of Wisconsin (Madison)

Students Lean Most to the Left (Politically) -- Mills College (Oakland CA)

Students Lean Most to the Right -- Hillsdale College (Hillsdale MI)

Most Religious Students – Brigham Young Univ. (Provo UT)

Race/Class Relations Friendliest -- Franklin W. Olin Col. of Engineering (Needham MA)

Gay Community Most Accepted -- New College of Florida (Sarasota FL)

Students Most Supportive of Their College Sports Teams -- Univ. of Maryland (College Park)

About the survey: The 70-question survey asks students to rate their schools on several topics and report on their experiences at them. Topics include: academics/administration, life at the school, their fellow students, and themselves. Surveys are conducted on campuses and via the Princeton Review website at which students have the option of completing a secure survey online. This edition's rankings are based on surveys of 110,000 students (300 per campus on average) at the 361 schools in the book (not all schools nationwide) during the 2004-05 and/or previous two school years.

About the rankings: A school's appearance on a ranking list does not reflect The Princeton Review's opinion of the college, but a high consensus of opinion among the college's surveyed students about it. Rankings for 60 lists are based entirely on student answers to survey questions. Rankings for two lists, "Toughest to Get Into" and "Best Overall Academics" factor in institutional data.

About the book: "The Best 361 Colleges" also has two-page profiles on each college with information on academics, admission, financial aid, student body, and campus life. It is one of 200 Princeton Review books published by Random House. Since 1992, when the first edition of the book was published, no school has ever paid a fee to be in the book.

The Princeton Review is a New York City-based company known for its test prep courses, education services, and books. It is not affiliated with Princeton University or ETS.
