Nelly Donates to MLK Memorial Project (Alphas)
ST. LOUIS, MO Wednesday Jan.12.2005 /netmusiccountdown.com/ -- Nelly has made a donation of $50,000 to the Martin Luther King Memorial Project Foundation, reports the St. Louis American. The money will go towards building a memorial to Dr. King on the mall in Washington, DC.
Nelly told the paper, "I think anytime you can be in conjunction with a great man such as Dr. King, it's only right."
Around $100 million dollars are needed to build and maintain the Martin Luther King Memorial. About $65 million has already been raised, according to MTV.com.
FYI - The MLK Memorial Project is a national project sponsored by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. The National Executive Director of the project, LeRoy Lowery, is a Brother in my chapter and past Interim Eastern Region Vice President. He is also the son of civil rights leader James Lowery.
