The Akron, Ohio Alumni chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. has been developing affordable housing for over 40 years. To date, over 1,700 units of housing have been provided for various populations, (disabled, elderly, families and ownership). November 9-11, 2005, this organization along with the Sphinx Development Group will hold the inaugural
Informational Conference for Non-Traditional Development Organizations"
This conference is to encourage and educate organizations that work in under-served communities how to utilize land, housing and economic development as tools for neighborhood empowerment and access to affordable assets. Who would benefit from this conference? Faith-based groups, fraternities, sororities, colleges, universities and non-profit organizations interested in providing development initiatives in their respective communities. The Sphinx Development Group, Inc., a consulting firm based in Akron, Ohio, will design the Conference. Ms. Cheryl Appline, the Program Manager for the Center for Faith-Based & Community Initiatives in the Department of Housing and Urban Development will be a luncheon keynote speaker. Conference Registration...$150.00 prior to October 28, 2005; inflation there after.
