Gossip Girl
Did anyone else watch it?
I really liked it, but it was easy to pick out some of the major difference from the books.

I dunno, I felt like it was the same as all the other teen shows out there. Plus the narration got on my nerves, it was worse that the normal Hills, LB narration.
Plus, it's going to be competing with Private Practice AND Bionic Woman. Not sure if I'll be able to keep up.

I liked it, too, but was like WTF at some of the changes. It was almost distracting because my brain kept saying "no, Dan can't be that cute and their dad isn't a musician and ?!? about him knowing Serena's mom and why is Eric younger than her now?"

I only got to see the first half while I was at the gym last night, but I liked it... looks like another little guilty pleasure show for me!

OK since there apparently are books (I didn't know that) can anyone explain to me why everyone is so obsessed with Serena? I watched the first ep last night and liked it, but I have to admit i didn't understand why everyone was so "OMG" about Serena.

And this is why I thought Blake Lively was miscast int he role. I think she is a beautiful woman, but in the books, Serena is the drop-dead gorgeous, head-turning girl. Everything comes naturally and easily to her. She doesn't try hard at anything, yet things always fall into place, even if everything she does works against her in every way. It's also why Blair is so jealous of her. What Blair has to work hard to achieve, Serena just happens upon it.

Yeah. I think Blair and Chuck are perfectly cast, though.

I wondered where Jenny's boobs were too! For someone in the book who is supposed to be in awe of the older, popular girls, they could've casted someone not as cute as this girl! Ditto on wondering how Dan and Jenny's dad knew Serena's mom.. in the book the seem to come from completely different "classes".
Overall though, I liked the show, and I really like Blake Lively cast as Serena. I agree with mu_agd that Serena is supposed to be pretty much flawless, and while Blake Lively (IMO) isn't drop dead gorgeous, she's very pretty and played the role of Serena well. I'm definitely going to keep watching.

I was surprised about the Jenny casting as well. Although I have to say that when I read the books I pictured Blake Lively as Serena. She didn't come off as unaware of things as she seems to in the books though. Like she lives a charmed life but doesn't realize it in the books but in the show was more like the weight of the world was on her shoulders. It annoyed me A LOT that they made Eric younger and suicidal. It's going to change a lot of the story down the road.

I've never read the books but was confused why the actress playing a 16? year old looks like she's 25. I found it very distracting. Plus, is "Veronica Mars" the VO chick? That was annoying.
Also, how lame do you have to be to watch someone walk into a party and then immediately check your sidekick to see if it's on the gossip page? Or, that lame guy who checked if the girl was on the gossip page before making his move? Lame, lame, lame!
eta: I figured out why the actress bugged me sooooo much. She looks exactly like Poppy Montgomery!

I never have read the books so I wasn't sure I'd watch but I did and I liked it. I usualy hate seeing the tv show/movie before I read the book but I think I'll get hooked on the show and start reading the books too!

Oh no! I LOOVE Kirsten Bell. I'm glad the CW's kept her around.

Don't know yet, but Jessica Szohr was cast for the part, so she'll be around.
But yes, definitely my new guilty pleasure -- it's fabulous.

Very Mean Girls meets Cruel Intentions-esque.
Nate's the heartbreaker, but I'm really diggin' on Dan.
ANTM 9, Private Practice and now Gossip Girl. Yay for DVR.
