Interesting chapter history

I found this while I was looking for something else. This is from the digital archive page at the DePauw University website. It's unusual (IMO) to have a reinstated chapter formed from a local. Might that have been a phenomenon in the early 20th century? Any others done that way?

"The Eta chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta was first established on the DePauw University campus in 1908. The original chapter lasted only 9 years, closing in 1917. During the 1923-24 school year Phi Sigma Delta, a local sorority, obtained a charter from Alpha Gamma Delta and the chapter was re-established at 202 S. Indiana St....In 1962 the sorority relocated to its final location at 436 Anderson Street until its closing 1993. The property was transferred to the Putnam County Foundation at the end of 1996. In May 1998 DePauw bought the house from the Foundation."

(What is the university using the house for? Might it revert to being a chapter house?)

Is it really that out of the ordinary? We are re-chartering our Beta Upsilon Chapter at Rhode Island, and the first group of New Members was an absorbed local chapter....

Yes! My chapter (Alpha) was closed for about ten years, and then was re-established from a local that wanted to go national. I didn't think it was that rare.

On a side note, one of the charter members of AGD'S Gamma Tau Chapter has a mother who pledged at the DePauw chapter. Jane was/is one of the coolest Province Director's I've ever met. (Glad that I've met several cool ones! )
