Snap bid/ COB problem
I recently went through rush last week but was cut before pref day. I later got a call from the greek coordinator who said i got a snap bid from one of my top three choices. But told me she had told that sorority i was ineligible for a snap bid. I got a call today from her and she told me that i was actually eligible for a snap bid or a COB. She also told me that she was going to send my contact info to them and they could decide whether or not they still wanted to give me a bid. So my question is do you think its still possible for me to get a bid from them and is it too late to get a bid?

The greek coordinator told you she was sending your info and it was possible for them to give you a bid but that it was going to be the sorority's choice.
Do you think she's lying to you?

Why would she call to say that the OP had been offered a snap bid but was ineligible? That seems odd to me. If the OP was ineligible, then why call and upset her?

she had called me on pref day(sunday) and left a message saying she was calling on behalf on the panhellnic council but i wasnt able to reach her until tuesday where she told me that a sorority had offered me a snap bid but it wasnt until Wednesday she told me that i was ineligible but after going over the green book with me she didnt see anything that said i was ineligible. She had to ask her supervisor first to make sure i was eligible and she called me today saying that i was. I think its odd too that she would call me if i couldnt get the bid but it kinda annoys me knowing that i could have gotten a snap bid but i didnt even though i was eligible

I can think of several scenarios for this. The first one is that since she didn't hear from you in time for a snap bid (they are given on bod day only)then she had to check to see if they had already given that slot to someone else. makes sense in that regard.

yeah that does make sense but she said the reason i was ineligible at first was because the sorority had dropped me and in order to get a snap bid i had to drop them. but she later found out she was wrong. I just think its weird that the greek coordinator wouldnt know the rules of the green book

There is no excuse for someone like the Greek coordinator not knowing every rule in the Green book. Having said that, the damned thing can be awfully tricky to understand. There are SO many nuances & permutations that effect rush. I wish you all the best in finding your home.

It's much more common than you think. Many schools pay the Greek life director a pittance - that is, if it's actually a regular paid position and not a grad student on assistantship - and many schools also could care less if the person they hire has any Greek experience at all, or if they don't, if they will make an attempt to learn.
It's a quite effective way to make a mess out of Greek life without it actually seeming like you're doing it on purpose.
nkim - if the group wanted to give you a bid before I wouldn't see why they still wouldn't want to. Since the Greek coordinator screwed up, you should be able to go ahead and take the bid even if the group is over quota and total. I'm sure the group will be perfectly OK with having one extra person. If she flips the script again, go over her head to her boss.

Perhaps her own organization has this rule and that was her confusion.

Yeah, he's probably right. If for some reason the Greek coordinator did get this wrong and they DIDN'T offer you a bid, that would be hella embarrassing.
Do you have class with/live in a dorm with any of the sisters? If so, try and strike up a conversation the next time you see her - her reaction should tell you where you stand.
