History lesson-song from 1929
Hi all! Going thru my grandmother's song book from 1929- thought you'd get a kick out of it!
Pan-Hellenic Toast
Here's to Kappa Gamma, and to Gamma Phi, to the D - anchor and the arrow of Pi, Beta Phi...To Delta Delta Delta to Theta and Alpha Phi.. But here is to Chi Omega for we love thee
Just think it is sooo neat that way back then, in a Chi Omega song book- they praised other sororities! Very neat!

Here's a second verse:
here's to Chi Omega
the cardinal and the straw
To the white carnation
the fairest flower of them all
to the scull and crossbones, the letters and the owl
may we ever keep unbroken
our loved and sacred vow
Cheers!

Heidi - you are so great to know that!!!
Thanks!
Here is another..
Here's to the trusty shield
Here's to the Delta three
Here's to the arrow the Pi Phis wield
Here's to the Kappa key
Here's to Sigma Kappa sign
Emblem of mystery
Here's to the letters that close entwine
Here to old Alpha Phi
So come let us toast for she is our boast, The Pan-Hellenic girl!

Isn't it strange that all the songs include Pi Phi's - but I have not seen anything on them with G.C? I guess they were top back in 1930 but where are they now= anyone have Pi Phi at their school?

Hi! I'm a Pi Phi and we have loads of chapters, mostly at the big universities where we do really really well! Most of our small-college chapters are older ones and we have lots of massive chapters out there.
A song of ours I like begins:"If you can wear and love the Pi Phi arrow, and not forget there are kites and keys...." I love that line! It came home to me last fall...
Of course, I wanted all 9 daughters to be Pi Phis but the oldest got a full academic scholarship to a university with no Pi Phis. During the summer, it hit me with full force that she wouldn't be a Pi Phi and I grieved for months even though I had been a Panhel advisor, had scads of friends in other sororities, and knew good and well that other sororities are great. But--dreams die hard.
She went through rush and got AOPi, her first choice all week, and is happy as can be. As a freshman, she was just elected rituals chairman and will be moving into the house. I'm learning to appreciate red roses and pandas and I'm truly proud of her and her affiliation! I just had a lesson to learn about not forgetting there are kites and keys....

Carnation et al,
Between all the Pi Phis (and Chi-O's to a slightly lesser extent) I was in love most of the time in college. They were spectacular!
One of the most beautiful women I ever met (with the exception of my wife, or course) was a Pi Phi in my Freshman Honors English Class. I once met her younger sister (biological and sorority) at a different school and she was an absolute carbon copy. Amazing. I'm sure it shocked the hell out of her when I went up and told her I knew her sister without even asking her name.
If my wife had pledged, she would have been one of the above. She had bids from both. Her parents would not allow her to pledge, though.

We have Pi Phi at Southern Cal and they are an awesome house! One of my good friends from high school went Pi Phi at USC and ended up their President. One of my good friends now is a Pi Phi from USC.
Before I rushed, I thought I wanted to be a Pi Phi. But then XO called me home... as they say-- "You don't become a Chi Omega, you're born one."
Its kinda funny actually, all but one of my friends--from all different schools-- is either XO, Pi Phi or DG.

We sing this (with a few changes in names in the first verse) at Eleusinian and some other dinners we have throughout the year. For the first verse we put one foot on our chair. For the second verse, we put on foot on the table (yes, the table) and the other one is still on the chair. I guess I thought other chapters did this as well.

Heather - first of all - get your butt to senior status!! - I have seen your posts - very well thought out!!!
Second ... we all put our foot on the table. But if you are saying good things about another group -- be proud and scream it! We want the greek system to grow!
Just my thought.. Sue

Our chapter, Zeta Delta, celebrated it's 50th my freshman year. It was right around Greek Week and we'd just won all these prestigious awards and Mary Ann was there. So at our brunch we sang Chi Omega Your's Forever like that...one foot on a chair the other on the table. On top of that we had a group of OLD women who came back just for the celebration. It brought tears to my eyes to see my sisters, alumna and SH Mary Ann doing this together.
What a neat thing to experience.
