Is it Worth It?
I am a freshman and would love to join a sorority in the Spring semester. Unfortunately, I feel like my dream will never become reality. I am an African American and all my values match that of a NPC sorority. One African American has already gotten into a NPC sorority on campus, but she is very outgoing. She has something special to offer, while I don't. I have been told that I am one of the shiest that anyone will ever meet. Even though my GPA is great and have done quite a bit of community service, I still feel like rushing would be totally pointless for someone like me. With those two things against me, should I even bother with trying to join?

Well, I mean, if your campus quota is only one black NPCer at a time, then yes, I think you're wasting your time.
And if you feel like you have nothing special to offer, then the least of your worries is whether or not you'll get a bid.

Don't listen to that meanie Ch2tf. She's a hater.
I'm sure one of the NPC sororities would love to take another black. You'll never be allowed to live-in, though, and you'd have to enter the house through the rear.

I suppose it's better than entering a hose in your rear (which is what I saw at first glance).

Wow. I am really glad that I graduate in 2 days and as such, am free to witness GC threads like this one.
Some serious advice though: If you spend your time wondering about whether it's "worth it," you FOR SURE aren't going to get a bid (that requires actually trying, you know).

Is it really inappropriate that I laughed when I read this?

As long as you keep putting yourself down and hanging around jerks who say things like you are the shyest person they ever met - you won't get a bid from ANY sorority, no matter if you're black or white.

Satire: We laugh at the absurdity of the racism, not the racism itself.

I know this was a somewhat serious response, but for whatever reason I read this in a "as long as you're my baby it don't matter if you're black or white" tune.

I was going back & forth between that and "Vogue." However, in rush it does matter if you're a boy or a girl.

You're right - I'm a little giggly - I think it's because live-in and I had a spat before bed last night so I slept in the guest room and didn't sleep that well.

Well, if you don't end up rushing it might not matter if you're a boy or girl. I'm not sure where I was going with that thought.

GreenEyedCutie,
I think you should go for it. You never know what's gonna happen until you try! There are lots of black girls in NPC sororities (that I know of anyway). Also what TLD221 said. I hope that if you do decide to go through recruitment you'll find your home
