Rushing for older people
Howdy,
I am a sophomore at Texas A&M University and i was wondering if I could still rush. I know it is late but I was never here for rush because I live 11 hours away from the university and would always arrive just before school started. I was wondering if anyone knows if some of the sororities in TAMU have spring rush and if sophomores can rush.
If anyone can help me out that would be great!

When I first read the subject I thought you were talking about non-traditional older students (late 20s and older), not a sophomore (so 19?). . .
Anyway, the best people to talk to would be those in your Greek Life office on campus. They would be able to tell you if any chapters are going to have spring recruitment and what the requirements for recruitment eligibility are (GPA, etc).

How old are you? Are you older than a traditional college student (23+)? Or, by "older people" do you simply mean you are a sophomore and are 18-20 like most sophomores?
I'll let someone more familiar with A&M comment on sophomores, non-traditional students, and if any chapters are doing spring recruitment. My guess is that a non-traditional student would not fare well at A&M.
Sorry, but, "I live 11 hours away" is a lame excuse for not going through recruitment if you wanted to do it the past two years. Maybe you didn't know about it freshman year, but what about this year? Out of state PNMs at colleges everywhere get to school early if need be for recrutiment. Plus, if you DO join a chapter, you'll be expected to recruit AND you'll probably have to come a week earlier than recruitment to get ready for it. If you do decide to go through, I'd come up with a different reason why you didn't go through formal recruitment (or spring last year).

tamu has a fall formal recruitment, so you have missed out on that opportunity for this year. you might contact the greek life office there to see if any chapters might be doing cob events next semester. i would imagine that they are getting ready to initiate their new members from formal recruitment, and therefore would not be looking to add anymore new members until next semester-but i could be wrong!

Thank you for the advice!
but yes i am a traditional sophomore (19 years old) i just meant older since i wasnt a freshman rushing.
Also, i was wondering if the sororities dont have spring rush would trying to rush as a junior be a bad idea? Would it even be worth it?

Only you can determine if something is worth it.

Not trying to hijack this thread but I am older, 25 and was looking to join a frat. Do they really frown upon that? Most people think I am about 20.

I guess you'd have to ask the specific chapter, but from my own experience, you're never too old to rush. Our current president just turned 42, he is retired army that decided to go back to school. My chapter's average age used to be about 23-24, its a little younger now because we've hit the freshman classes hard for the last 3 semesters, but we still only have 2 members that are under 21, and they JUST initiated last night.

The OP is not looking to join a fraternity. Age can be a factor in joining a sorority, especially at a school like A+M.

I wasn't posting the the OP, I was posting to Tiako. HE is looking to join a FRATERNITY. If I had been posting the the OP, I wouldn't have brought up AGE because the OP is 19. That is all.

Not being snippy. I'm trying to resolve the problems. I don't wish to put sand in anyone's pants.
