A Playful recruitment story-09
Day 1
Hey guys. I’m going through recruitment at a relatively small school with a somewhat less competitive Greek system. I’ve staggered my posts so you can’t figure out where I go to school. I thought I’d share my recruitment story with you.
I’ll tell you that I have a pretty good idea of what each of the house’s overall reputations are, but I’m trying really hard not to let that color my feelings or my decisions, especially since I know that all the houses are full of nice, wonderful women, and no reputation car accurately represent a group.
There are three houses here, and I’m going to code them as playground equipment, as a throwback to when we were young and still got to enjoy recess.
The first house I went to was Swing set. I had heard a bit about this house, and wasn’t expecting to like it nearly as much as the others. I have a good number of friends in both of the other houses, but no good friends, and only one acquaintance in Swing set. Boy was I pleasantly surprised. I had a great time in this house. They did a sort of speed dating thing where we got a few minutes with a set of actives, then a bell rang and we got to talk to another few actives. It was a nice way to get to see a lot of the girls, even if the conversation was pretty basic.
The second house I went to was Slide. At this house I was picked up by one girl and stayed with her the whole time. It was kind of awkward, but we hit it off pretty well. We had good conversation, even if it lagged in a few places, but I kind of felt that talking to only one girl wasn’t a good way to get to know an entire house of women. But the girls I knew from this house all stopped by to say hi, which was nice.
The final house of the evening was Monkey Bars. This was a house that has a reputation most like my personality, but I’m trying to keep that out of my decisions. I liked the way they rotated at this house, it was somewhere between the other two. I got to talk to one girl for most of the party, and other girls rotated through our little clump. It was nice to get to talk to a lot of girls, but still get to have meaningful conversations with a few people. They also showed a slide show, which showed me some of the things they liked to do together. I really liked that there were a lot of pictures of a lot of different activities on there, from meeting, to a ski trip, and formals and themed parties. They seemed like a really close group of women.
I loved all the houses, and have no idea how I’m ever going to be able to whittle it down. My face hurts from smiling so much. I’m hoping that I get a more distinct feeling in the next few rounds.
Thanks for listening, and I’ll try to keep you posted.
