Unhappy Too late? @ UCF

I am a senior and I just missed UCF's sorority rush. Is it too late to join a sorority? I had a hard time decoding what anything meant and apparently it was last week..

Im a newbie so Im no expert but I know every chapter made quota.. my chapter specifically already gave out our COB spots as well..

Contact the Greek Life Office though: http://www.greeklife.sdes.ucf.edu/
They may know of something?

If not I REALLY suggest checking out major specific Fraternities. I don't know their recruiting procedures, but I have friends who have joined them and loved them!

Good luck! GO KNIGHTS

You're a senior and you didn't notice/go through sorority rush? Yes, I would say that ship has sailed.

This has always sort of boggled my mind. Girls would get to like senior year and say "I wish I had known about recruitment!" I mean, we are not an extremely Greek school, but it's the same weekend every year and there are ads/chalkings/posters EVERYWHERE. How does one "not know?" I'd imagine it's even MORE publicized at UCF.

You could contact Greek Life about possible informal recruitment, but it's a little pointless if you're a senior graduating in May.

The chances of a senior successfully COBing at just about any school are pretty slim. Yes, there are exceptions, but they are very rare. Also, it is likely too late for COB unless there's a particular chapter that is way below total, which I don't believe there is at UCF.

It also doesn't sound like the OP has any friends that are in sororities, or else she should have known about rush. Also, it's useless to plead ignorant in the days of the internet. The information was easily available online: http://www.greeklife.sdes.ucf.edu/howtojoin.html Or if she was truly interested, she could've made the effort to find out by calling the greek life office or asking around.

Quote was 59 from what I've read, so hundreds of girls were able to find out about recruitment and go through it.

At KU, Panhellenic sends out a mini-magazine mailing at the beginning of Summer to promote the registering of Fall Formal recruitment. I don't know if UCF does this, but I would assume they would at least send something to Freshman or newly entering students.

I also agree with you, kddani, that one who is really interested would use the necessary resources to get information.

Just because it is too late to join a sorority doesn't mean it's too late to find another organization or club to be involved with. Best of luck to you in your senior year!

Let's not focus on what she should've done in the past and just answer her question. When I was at UCF, seniors had a slim to none chance of getting a bid during rush. COB was a little bit easier but it still took a lot of luck. I'd imagine it's even more difficult now. From what I've heard, all chapters at UCF made quota so that means there are not a whole lot of spots to fill in each of the sororities. Unfortunately, I think you may have missed your chance.

I personally don't know if UCF chapters will be doing COB, but judging from people more knowledgeable than I, it seems as though you missed your chance with the social orgs.

However, UCF has tons of greek organizations. Look into service orgs (Alpha Phi Omega, fraternity and Gamma Sigma Sigma, sorority), there are lots of professional organizations (Alpha Kappa Psi, general fraternity focused on professionalism, Delta Sigma Pi, fraternity for college of business majors - many more!).

And there's lots of organizations on campus - tons of clubs (look at the Registered Student Organization database), SGA, Campus Activities Board, etc. etc.

Good luck!

I'm going to say, yes, it's too late.

Focus on graduating and getting a good job. Don't dwell on it. The ship has sailed. It's not worth being upset about it all year or for years to come. It isn't for everyone.
