"Stupid" Question about Recs

Alright, girls. I'm attempting to rush in the fall as a transfer/junior at a competitive college, so I truly need all the help I can get.

Could someone please walk me through the process of finding recommendation letters? I've poked around a few stickies, and looked through the npcwomen.org website, but I could not find how to contact local alum. Am I just looking in the wrong places?

AND is it really appropriate to contact alum from this website? Or is that kind of dicey?

Ask women that you know- teachers, church, neighbors, parents of your friends, friends of your parents, etc.

You can also look on npcwomen.org to determine if there is an alumnae panhellenic in your town. You can try contacting them, however it is getting a wee bit late for that.

Also, you probably shouldn't use your full/real name on the internet

No one can "walk" you through the process of attatining recs, this is something you must do for yourself.

Suggestions of people to contact:

*teachers
*church members
*neighbors
*mom's friends
*dad's friends (they could be married to sorority alumnae)
*college professors
*your local alumnae panhellenic (which can be found here)


Yes it is difficult to find them, but it can be done. Every summer there are thousands of girls in your predicament who manage to find recs for every chapter at their school.

It just takes WORK. You have to really get out there and exhaust all of your contacts. It's not something that's just going to come to you.

And yes, it is ULTRA TACKY to ask women on this site for recs.

Also, don't forget to ask your friend's moms (even guy friends moms). They can be a good source for you too!

I know from personal experience how beneficial this can be. While investigating the recruitment process, I contacted every woman I knew and learned a lot about the process. After hearing about legacies, I got in touch with my late paternal grandmother's college to see if, on the off chance, she joined a sorority. I cannot describe to you how amazing it was to learn so much about this woman. Yes she was a sorority - president of her local, on the greek council, etc. etc.

The whole process is tedious but it's worth it because you can get so much information from these women. Ask their advice and talk to them about their experience. I found that they are more than willing to share!

If you're talking about my username, you don't have to worry. It's a nickname my Dad gave me when I was a kid. It's a terribly complicated connection to my real name.

Check your local universit(ies) websites, as they might have links to the local alumnae groups. That's how I found ours. Good luck!
