Rerush
so my school normally does fall rush and i missed recruitment for fall 08 .. and a few of the sororities did spring rush and i participated but didnt get a bid. the day after one of the sisters friend mentioned to me that alot of the sisters wanted to give me a bid but didnt because i had rushed with 3 other friends who they werent going to give bids to and thought i wouldnt accept my bid if my friends didnt get a bid. i really like the sorority and sisters have been nothing but nice to me since, like always saying "hi" etc.. i was wondering the if i rushed in fall 09 is it "legal" to possibly rush the same sorority

If you rushed, and did not receive/accept a bid during spring recruitment, you are eligible to participate in formal recruitment this fall.
Allow me to be a little honest (just my opinion):
I'd take this sister's story with a grain of salt because it might not be the truth.
Generally speaking, if a sorority is interested in you and has spots available, they will bid you (whether they are interested in your friends or not).
Her explanation of why you weren't given a bid sounds like someone trying to come up with a reason that doesn't hurt your feelings (and doesn't reveal private membership selection info).
If you're going to go through recruitment, keep your options open and don't have your heart set on this sorority.

Ditto. I think you should rush again, keep an open mind, and have fun!

Keep in mine that during formal recruitment, you don't "rush" for any particular sorority - you will visit every sorority at least once.

Saying that "they hope you rush" is NOT dirty rushing. That's just saying that they hope you participate in recruitment.
Saying something like "We hope you rush because we'll totally give you a bid" is dirty rushing.
My advice is to take everything these girls are telling you with a grain of salt.

If you didn't get a bid through INFORMAL rush then what the fuck would make you think you have a chance with formal rush?
Sorry, I'm kinda drunk and being honest.

well, normally during formal recruitment each sorority takes larger pledge classes than during informal recruitment when sororities may have only space for a couple of new members.
participating in formal recruitment doesn't guarantee a pnm a bid, but the odds are better, because even though there are typically more pnms rushing, there are more spaces available(than informal) and all the sororities will be involved.

I usually think that when i see these threads and therefore don't bother to post in them. They'll either learn or get lucky.

Or, I think what Johnny was trying to say is that the sororities who are doing informal rush usually are the ones who don't make quota/are perennially under total anyway - so if they didn't give her a bid then she doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell.
But your interpretation can be the right one too - without knowing the particulars of the OP's school it's hard to say.

That's more along the lines of what I was thinking.
