TO THE SORORITIES AND FRATS OF THE NPHC
What are the factors that made you fall in love with your sorority or fraternity? And there are some videos on youtube called "Real Talk 1: Black Greek Fraternities" that discusses how greeklife is not Godly, how do you all feel about this accusation?

We had a really good thread about this in the past, but I have no idea what it was called.
Several of us also posted "recruitment threads" about out experiences. Search for "Brian Pumper" to find mine.
I chose Alpha Phi Alpha for three reasons:
1) The history of the fraternity deeply resonated with me like no other fraternity did.
2) The national programs were a reflection of my own values.
3) When I was in a room full of Alphas, I felt like I was at home.
My love for Alpha snuck up on me my senior year in college -- although looking back, an Alpha was all I could have been.

This topic doesn't really affect me one way or the other, but really, where do these moonbats get off saying these things? NPHC organizations are out doing what I think might rightly be called "Christ's work" while these so-called Christians stand on the sideline and criticize them over their song lyrics not being Christian enough or conflicting with some obscure Bible passage.
Not every organization has to be of a religious character to be of real benefit to the community. If this sort of criticism is leveled against NPHC organizations, then how about the United Way? The NAACP? I'm pretty sure those groups (which do a lot of good) also don't fit the arbitrary and narrow criteria these videos seem to assign to so-called Godly organizations.
In short, me1990haha, the views expressed in those videos are so completely absurd that if it wasn't for the deadly-serious look on the face of the gentleman in the first video, I'd really think you were kidding.

This whole argument about greek letter organizations/NPHC orgs being "Godly" or "un-Godly" is quite old and really stupid. People obviously have nothing better to do with their time. Our organizations are not religious. We are accepting of those from various religious/spiritual affiliations. What bonds us together in sisterhood/brotherhood is not religiousness although some members/chapters choose to pray and attend church together. And it's true that our organizations were founded on Christian principles since most/all of our founders were Christians but we are not Christian-centered organizations nor do we claim to be.
Also people fail to realize that our organizations extend long beyond college for many members so much of the "un-Godly" charge (which is highly debatable) refers to undergrad greek life, which can be highly influenced by college life in general, campus culture, and peer pressure. The organizations overall do not encourage/promote wrong doing and again, we are not religious organizations. And if we were, we'd be no different than a church congregation that has many members and can't control the behavior of all members nor would we be expected to.
You're not likely to receive much response on this topic though since many members consider it a waste of time to even discuss.

Senusret I that was very rude. and To Royaltempest.... my outlook is this...you all shouldn't be ashamed of your religious affiliation...I am not saying that your organization as a whole shuld be religious but you should definatly fight that you love God ..I am a God fearing child and I love me some God but if you don't even wish to acknowledge God as being apart of your sorority what should make me look at your sorority for membership....God is very important to me and if you feel like He is not an aspect to you and your sisters..I feel like you are "ungodly"...How can you have an organization and not care whether people saw you as God loving people...but wouldn't care if God was there or not all you care about is "sisterhood" hmmmmmmm you are really making me re-think some things

And you are making lots of assumptions. You took exactly what you wanted from what I stated so I guess that's why most don't answer these questions? I was trying to be nice by answering but no one on gc owes you anything and how dare you judge anyone or any organization of which you know very little about? We definitely don't need the narrow minded and judgemental among us so maybe you'd better rethink some things. I'm done.

I love the Sgrho's on my campus and it just upset me to hear you say that "What bonds us together in sisterhood/brotherhood is not religiousness although some members/chapters choose to pray and attend church together. And it's true that our organizations were founded on Christian principles since most/all of our founders were Christians but we are not Christian-centered organizations nor do we claim to be."
I mean I understand that you are not a Christian-centered organization but the part about you being more bond together by sisterhood..I just think..God has more to do with greek Organizations than you think and you. I love greeks but I feel like sometimes you should give God a little more devotion other than devoting all of your time to the organization... Be men and Women of God that love the idea of sisterhood and brotherhood, that's all i'm saying.

Then you probably don't want to pledge. There. That's one question that you don't even have to think about anymore.

PROTIP: Not everyone is Christian, or even religious.
No matter what my personal feelings on religion are, it's one of my biggest pet peeves that people try to impress their ideas on other people

I am sure the women of the NPHC are heartbroken that you are reconsidering.
That video is hilarious. Why do some people think if devote your time, passion and interest to ventures other than God, then you must be some kind of heathen? The Christians I know live what they believe but also have many interests and activities. So I guess if you must devote all your resources to being Christian, you'd best not get married, have children, have a job etc. because you might devote a tiny bit of your effort to those endeavors.
Sorry for the lane swerve, but this is an attitude I have heard expressed towards Greek organizations of all types.
