Only NPC?

Are you the only NPC on your campus?

I'm in a chapter where the only other two sorority are locals, (Chi omega Rho and Delta Tau Sigma) We also have Alpha Kappa Alpha, but they do a lot on their own, and do not participate in our two week recruitment period.

Do your locals follow any of NPCs rules when it comes to rush/recruitment? Do you feel you're better off being the only national?

My collegiate chapter has been the only NPC group on campus for the last almost 17 years. Technically there are 3 local sororities, but only one group seems to even recruit each year. Those groups have been around decades longer than my sorority, and they conduct their own recruitment and pledge period.

I don't think my sorority is better off being the only national. In my own personal opinion, it would be wonderful if another NPC group came to campus because that would mean more women are interested in Greek Life. NPC groups offer a lot of things the local groups can't. And while I don't want to assume that all local sororities haze, the ones at my alma mater definitely do - and that's not what I want the campus community to think of Greeks.

There are a lot of NPC alumnae who belong to the local APH, but because of our isolation (Hawaii) and the fact that Greek life isn't really strong on campus, not too many groups are interested in colonizing. Sadly, it'll probably be that way for a while.

I work with several of our chapters who are the only NPC group on a campus with several other locals. In that case, I don't think that being NPC helps them at all. Locals have a lot less in the way of restrictions (at least the ones I've seen do) and can have recruitment events with fraternities, alcohol, etc. while our chapters are still held to the same guidelines as any other campus. (ie: NPC agreements recommendations, and resolutions around recruitment) In addition, local dues tend to be MUCH lower than NPC organizations' dues because locals do not have to pay fees to their National, high insurance rates, etc. which is another sticking point in terms of attracting women.

Woo go LTU. I even wish there was another NPC on our campus. It'd be awesome to have more sorority girls to interact with.

I also wish that AKA was larger (well.. I wish that all of the small ones were larger) and that Phi Beta Sigma would actually interact with the rest of us.

yeah, but AKA is an NPHC, and function very differently, and I have NO idea how PBS functions, but they do alot with their other metro area chapters. AKA has a huge alumni basis.... I wish DphiE's alumni were in the area more often.

I absolutely agree. Even on campuses with locals and more than one NPC, this occurs.

Heyyy just heard a rumor that XOP tried to become a chapter of Chi Omega but failed so they added the Rho on the end and haven't petitioned for that nation since. So, if that had of gone through (whenever that was), it would have been cool. I'd have to double check to see if that's true.

Plus, LTU has had a lot of thriving local sororities and fraternities.. but obviously that has declined. The only greeks that are doing really well are the national, noncultural ones.
