Woman swept away by a wave just before bf proposes
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081204/...proposal_death
A BRIDE-to-be was swept away by a wave before her boyfriend got the chance to ask her to marry him at a landmark called Proposal Rock.
Scott Napper had taken his Filipina girlfriend Leafil Alforque, 22, to Proposal Rock near Neskowin Beach in Oregon to pop the question last Saturday.

This Saturday, as in two days from now? Wow talk about a quick wedding. Proposing and then a few days later getting married.
ETA: nvm I found this news article and it said that they had planned the wedding for the 6th, and he just wanted to "officially" propose.
That's so sad about what happened. I can't imagine being him & watching her be swept away.

This is really sad, especially to watch it happen right before his eyes.

I've spent a lot of time in that area due to family property on the coast, and it really can be quite dangerous if you don't know how to swim or have experience in the water. Even though it was just a three foot wave the undertow is quite strong, and especially this time of year the water is cold.

This story was on the news last night, and it struck my bf and I as odd. The couple met online, he said the first thing he ever bought her was her wedding dress, he was just proposing and yet the wedding was set for this weekend, and when the reporter asked him to describe her, he said she was really attractive, pretty, and some other superficial comment...he didn't seem choked up or emotional at all. Honestly, it struck us as a mail-order-bride situation.

Thank you for sharing my sentiments! As I watched the video, mail-order bride came to mind. It's tragic for her to lose her life at such a young age, but it seemed more like a safety story than a tragic love story.

Actually that is what I thought too. Especially when he had returned the dress on Monday or some day that was ridiculously early.

I mean he's 45, she's 22 and they both met online. This trip was her first to the US and it was to be "proposed" to although in the article it says their wedding was set.
Her family wasn't coming, that was obvious from the article. I thought it reeked of "mail order bride."

Unfortunately, I have several female cousins who were mail order brides. They marry older American men because it's their only out.
Chances are, he already proposed. There's a lot of red tape to go through if you're coming from the Philippines and intending to stay here. If the American groom can show proof that a wedding's taking place soon, the more likely the Filipina bride can leave her country and stay here.

This seems highly suspicious and too coincidental for my taste.

Are you suggesting foul play? It would cost quite a few dollars to bring a mail order bride to the US just to push her in the ocean. Travel costs, visa costs, and I think they have to pay a dowry as well.

My family is as traditionally Filipino as it gets, and no one's ever had to pay a dowry. It may have been like that in the olden days, but it's not as widely practiced these days.
