Unhappy I think I made a boo-boo during rush.

I've been a lurker for quite some time, but now the tables are on me.

I'm currently going through rush and we went through all the houses today,
I was very nervous at first, but I calmed down as the day progressed.

Well one sister at EFG asked me
,
"So, what's the real reason as to why you're rushing."

And me, being an honest person, replied by saying this
,
"Well, in most of middle and high school I didn't really have many girl friends, by choice. I just didn't like girls, I didn't want anything to do with them, and I expected them to all be jealous & thrive on drama, so I stayed away. I pretty much had my head up my ass. And towards the end of my senior year I realized how stupid I was for judging all these people before I got to know them. I realized how lonely I was and that I was the jealous one. So I really just want to have the life I never had, I want to be able to be happy with my friends - sisters, and I want to have those girlfriends that you should cherish."

I think I made myself seem desperate & sad, which is not a good thing. I think it didn't seem like an answer a sister would look for. She was nice & I didn't she any body language that was bad, but I don't think I made the best impression. & the sad thing, is that this was my favorite house of the night.

So my question is, how would you react, or what would be your thoughts if someone told you that was why they joined?
Sorry I'm just really worried.

That's actually a pretty common answer/sentiment of many women who join sororities. I wouldn't worry about it. Continue to be yourself.

ETA: When I asked one PNM that question she answered me with, "Well when I go to Bentley's (a bar in College Park) I always see groups of girls with their sorority sisters and I want to be like them!" The answer you get can be very telling, and I would definitely appreciate your honesty.

Honestly, if a PNM said that to me, I would be grateful for her honesty. I feel that wanting to actually have close female friends in college is an excellent reason to join a sorority, and I'd look at it as a positive. I can't speak for everyone though.

I would appreciate your honesty too, but I hope you didn't really say, "head up my ass".

Lol, no.
I accually said, "head up my 'you know where' " But I just didn't type it like that, because it seemed weird.
I would never say "ass", my rg said no cursing what so ever.

I agree with Violet, that's a pretty common answer and I see nothing wrong with it.

I love your honesty girl, while I understand there are some areas where things should not be as blunt, if I were a sister of that sorority that asked that question, I'd probably expect to hear some fake sounding answer but in this case, you answered it truly and honestly and I'd be surprised and think, hey, she had the nerve to tell the truth.
