Wink They're JUST stereotypes

I love it when negative stereotypes are proved to be fiction instead of fact.

My friend and I are interested in joining a sorority. She's made her mind up and I have no problem with that however I am still deciding and open to information from each organization. We spoke to members of various organizations and as we approached a member of A.K.A she mumbles "they're so stuck up and rude".
Well, the member was very pleasant and gave us a lot of helpful information about finding the right organization for you. When we asked why she chose to be a member of A.K.A she spoke of the purpose for the organization and how it paralleled her own morals etc....
When we finally got to the organization that my friend is interested in the member was was very short and dare I say it "stuck up".

I'm sure my friend learned a lesson there......

It's nice to know that a lady of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated was able to give you some insight and advice. Remember what she said and pursue what's right for you. Be sure to read the rules posted in each organization's forum. Good luck with your endeavors.

After speaking with the organization she was interested in she said "Wow, I didn't ask for all the attitude" she also said that she was still interested in her original choice reguardless. I told her there was nothing wrong with that but she did admit she was wrong for assuming.

While this is a poignant discussion about African American sorority stereotypes, it still references my Sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and portrays what non-members are saying about us, which is inherently unverifiable.

Personally, I do not care what any nonmember thinks or says about any of the National PanHellenic Council affiliate organizations. I know what my Sorority does and why it does it that way. Moreover, I pay my dues, attend my meetings and participate to ensure it is done properly. I know several other NPHC organizations have similar activities.

As such, I am locking this thread as inappropriate on the AKA Ave.
